About the Book

Glyn and the Difa are preparing to go caravanning at the National Eisteddfod in Bala. They're a middle-aged married couple and avid Eisteddfod-goers, both for very different reasons. But after meeting old acquaintances, memories from the past come back to disturb them, and secrets from years ago are exposed.

Review :
Beth sydd raid i berson ei wneud i deimlo'n werthfawr? I Glyn druan, yr athro Cymraeg sy'n agosu at oed ymddeol, cwblhau ei nofel am Dafydd ap Gwilym a sicrhau gwobr Llyfr y Flwyddyn fyddai'n sicrhau hunan-barch, tra bod ei wraig Dilys, 'Y Difa', yn treulio pob awr yn ymarfer ei pharton cerdd dant a llefaru yn y gobaith o ennill cydnabyddiaeth genedlaethol. Wrthi'n paratoi at wythnos yr Eisteddfod mae'r cwpwl ar ddechrau nofel Lleucu Roberts, Y Ferch ar y Ffordd, ac mae Glyn wedi derbyn gorchymyn gan y Difa i sicrhau fod y garafn yn berffaith - wedi'r cyfan does wybod pwy allai fod yn galw heibio. Brynhawn dydd Sul, a hwythau ar eu ffordd i'r Eisteddfod, daw Dilys a Glyn ar draws beirniad y Goron, Dr Heulwen Pears, a'i gwr Dan mewn trafferthion ar ochr y ffordd. Mae eu car wedi torri i lawr a hwythau'n gorfod cyrraedd y Bala erbyn y seremoni fawr ddydd Llun. Wrth reswm, mae Dilys yn teimlo iddi ennill y loteri wrth allu hebrwng y beirniad weddill y ffordd, ond gwelwn fod Glyn yn anesmwytho, a dyw'r daith ddim yn un gysurus. A hon yn nofel a gafodd ei chyhoeddi adeg Eisteddfod Genedlaethol y Bala a'r Cyffiniau, mae'n ddigon posibl i nifer o ddarllenwyr ar y maes carafanaur wythnos honno wenu wrth ddarllen y dychan deifiol a geir yn nisgrifiadau Lleucu Roberts o wahanol agweddau y bywyd Eisteddfodol gan dagu ar eu Chardonnay wrth adnabod y cymeriadau a gaiff eu darlunio'n ddidrugaredd ganddi. Ydyn, mae Rhisiart a Glenys yn fyw. Ond peidiwch chael eich twyllo gan hiwmor a dychan rhan gyntaf y gyfrol i gredu mai nofel am firi Cymreig y dosbarth canol Eisteddfodol yw hon. Yn raddol yn ystod wythnos yr Eisteddfod down i adnabod y cymeriadau yn well a gwelwn nad yw popeth fel y mae'n ymddangos ar yr wyneb. Mae pob un yn cuddio rhywbeth, ac mae'r nofel yn mynd i'r afael chwestiynau dyrys yn ymwneud chyfrifoldeb, gonestrwydd, bai ac edifeirwch. Aiff 'r darllenydd i fannau tywyll iawn wrth drafod y themu hyn a'u heffaith, nid yn unig ar fywydau'r cymeriadau, ond ar eu hagweddau at fywyd a'u dylanwad ar y genhedlaeth nesaf. Mae Dilys yn tueddu i weld popeth yn ddu a gwyn, i'r graddau bod ei chymeriad yn ymylu ar fod yn stereoteip, ond mae Glyn a Heulwen yn arbennig yn gymeriadau crwn, sy'n gwingo wrth geisio ymdopi 'u bywydau a dod o hyd i'r ffordd orau ymlaen. Ar glawr y gyfrol, gwelir maes yr Eisteddfod fel noddfa lachar yng nghanol dwch a chymylau bygythiol. Erbyn diwedd y nofel, gwelwn nad noddfa i gilio iddi sydd ei hangen bob tro. Ambell waith rhaid sefyll i wynebu'r helyntion a derbyn y canlyniadau. Catrin Beard Gellir defnyddio'r adolygiad hwn at bwrpas hybu, ond gofynnir i chi gynnwys y gydnabyddiaeth ganlynol: Adolygiad oddi ar www.gwales.com, trwy ganiatd Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru.
