About the Book

The planet Hellhole was devastated by a large asteroid impact centuries ago and most of its native species - including a sophisticated alien civilisation - were utterly wiped out. Now Hellhole has been opened up as part of a colonization initiative by the sprawling and decadent Galactic Monarchy, but only the hardiest, or most desperate, pioneers and misfits would dare to settle there. This is their story of trying to tame a shattered world, and of uncovering secrets left behind by a devastated civilization.

Review :
"Hellhole is a militaristic sf story of galactic proportions...The characters are easy for the reader to believe in, brought to life through not only their own emotions but also the responses and thoughts of the individuals around them." Booklist, January 2011 'The first in a proposed trilogy, Hellhole is an impressive military science fiction mixed with space opera on a grand scale. Herbert and Anderson have created an incredibly detailed universe of harsh politics, intrigue, war, and love. The cast of characters is daunting, but still manageable as each has their own intriguing backstory and motivations. The aliens are unique and still fairly mysterious. I'm looking forward to seeing how they develop in the later novels. Herbert and Anderson are obviously a talented team, having written the popular novels continuing the Dune saga. Their latest venture is fast-paced, fascinating and completely engaging. Full of adventure, mystery, and interesting characters, I thoroughly enjoyed this exciting new release. Ending in a minor cliffhanger, I'm eagerly the next installment. Without a doubt, science fiction fans should check out this fantastic new saga.' Scifichick.com 'an epic science fiction tale that offers something for fans of many subgenres-colonization, first contact, military science fiction, and space opera. The novel takes time to find its voice, but by its conclusion the characters-human, alien, environmental-come into their own and the plot picks up steam, setting up what promises to be a riveting trilogy... Hellhole manages to stand out as a science fiction novel that succeeds in all the areas that the genre should. It's cerebrally engaging, spiritually challenging, and yet emotionally powerful as a story in its own right. I'm very excited to find out what the next two volumes have in store' azurescape.net 'Hellhole is a widescreen yet lightweight space opera, a stew of familiar ingredients up to and including the kitchen sink. It's smooth, competent and readable' David Langford, SFX Magazine, April Issue
