About the Book

The 916 spearheaded the Ducati revival of the 1990s. Introduced at the end of 1993, this product of Massimo Tamburini and the Cagiva Research Centre took the water-cooled four-valve engine of the 851, placing it in an evolutionary chassis with revolutionary styling. The 916 immediately set new standards of performance for twin-cylinder machines, epitomised by its unequalled success in the World Superbike Championship. This book will trace the conception and development of the four-valve Ducati from its first appearance at the Bol d’Or in 1986. By 1990 Raymond Roche gave Ducati their first World Superbike Championship, this being followed by Texan Doug Polen. Star British rider Carl Fogarty then took over the reins, and along with Troy Corser and Troy Bayliss dominated the World Superbike Championship from 1994 until 2001. Along with the factory racers, all the related four-valve models will be covered in depth, from the initial 851 and 888, to the 748, ST4 and 996. All the variants, including the Sport Production series, will be detailed, along with the rare and beautiful Supermono. This book is the definitive guide to these legendary Ducati models. Ian Falloon is one of the world’s leading motorcycle historians. He has more than 40 years experience with motorcycles, spent 25 years writing for magazines around the world, and has written numerous books about motorcycles. He specialises in Italian marques such as Moto Guzzi, Laverda, MV Agusta, and of course, Ducati.

About the Author :
Ian Falloon was born in New Zealand in 1952 and studied engineering and music at Victoria University, Wellington. After a career as a symphony orchestra oboist was brought to an end by a motorcycle accident he began writing articles about motorcycles for magazines. His first book, The Ducati Story, has run to several editions and has been published in three languages. The success of The Ducati Story led to a series of Ducati books and histories of Honda, Kawasaki, BMW, and Moto Guzzi motorcycles. He has now written many books about motorcycles, mostly historical but also restoration guides. With an interest and passion spanning decades he now concentrates on collecting and restoring older Italian motorcycles, particularly Ducati, MV Agusta, Laverda, and Moto Guzzi. Ian Falloon lives in Australia, and is ably supported in his projects by his wife Miriam and sons Ben and Tim.

Review :
This edition is so much more than a few extra pass at the rear. As you compare the two edition side by side you see improvements on lots of the pages: repositioning and sizing of images; replacement images; new paragraphs; and, in some cases, pages throughout. Even the font size has been changed to make it easier to read which helps to make the book feel like is is a better quality product (which it is). Due to the quality of this volume and the improvements to the presentation along with the additional information bringing the story up to date it is well worth buying, even if you have the original. If you don't have that, it really is a 'must' buy! - Ian Kerr. Ian Falloon's book, now enlarged and updated, covers not just the 916 but its derivatives, the 748, 996, 998, S4, ST2, S4RS and ST4S models. It also monitors the development process that kept the model at the forefront of WSBK racing and brought titles to Carl Fogarty, Troy Corser, Neil Hodgson and Troy Bayliss. There is a comprehensive appendix to the book with technical specifications for all the models, as well as production figures to the end of the 916 and its siblings in 2008. - Old Bike Australasia. Ian Falloon is also a well-known author and well-known expert on the Ducati brand. The journalist, who lives in Australia, covers the first liquid-cooled four-valve 851 and 888 through the legendary 916 - including the development history - right up to the 996. The sports-touring and monster types with four-valve technology are not to be missed, Superbike sport has also the word. The appendix contains the most important technical data of the road-legal models as well as the production figures. The original edition of this book appeared in 2001 at Haynes, a second edition in 2007. Ten years have passed since then, the new and garnished output with high quality photos is up to date and always worth a purchase. - www.sidecar-news.de. After NEWS sports fan Wolfgang Zeyen has already reported extensively on the Ducati (Engine Book 2001), now dedicated to Ian Falloon 916 & Co. As a profound brand connoisseur, the living in Australia author penetrates deep into the technology and history of the Italian Renner and also lets Ducati's successes in the Superbike World Championship review. Last but not least tables with technical data and production figures of all mentioned models but 2001 make the English-speaking band a valuable supplement for lovers of the four-valve sports. - Kurve.
