About the Book

In September 2002 I had a fall at my school. I loved school, I had hopes and dreams to become a journalist and become famous in the media field. The fall changed my life so much even I didn't know what was happening to me. I just felt weaker each day that I spent in hospital. I spent over two years in hospital still hoping that I could get better and hoping that death was not just round the corner. I lost all my friends because I became disabled. No-one would come to see me apart from my parents and to be honest without them I would be lost by now. My little brother was born not long after my fall. He kept me going it was amazing. I have three younger sisters but for some reason my brother meant more to me then anyone else. Things changed rapidly, I have lost my speech now and each day is a struggle. Step by step I started to lose things that I would need to have my dreams come true. It is very difficult to accept the fact that I cannot get better but I've got no choice but to still move on with my life. Just fight the challenges that get thrown at me. I used to wonder "why me" but now I know I am special and unique. God has done this for a good reason that even I don't know. My parent's life came to a standstill and they found it more difficult than I did myself. One thing I can say for sure is that they have never let me down. I feel guilty that I have depended on them so much unlike a normal teenager. I have written these poems as my life altered everyday, each poem has a meaning, maybe you will understand the meaning or you may not. But my main aim, well my only dream that I have left, is to tell the people out there how tough life can be. Trying to explain to people how important it is to me to tell the world the fears and hopes of living on earth. Also, sharing my experiences, all hard and good. I am eighteen years old now, I feel a lot more mature for my age because of all the things I have had to go through. The only thing that keeps me going is the fact that my parents have never given up on me and I would hate to let them down.
