About the Book

Tourism is often viewed as a phenomenon that brings out the worst in human nature. Self-interest, overuse of resources, injustice and cultural erosion are but a few examples. This book explores the contrasting view that tourism can be a pathway to hope and happiness. The chapters address areas including wellbeing, positive psychology, hopeful tourism, mindfulness, peace, responsible tourism and spirituality. The volume examines the role of tourism in preserving natural wonders and architectural masterpieces, bringing out the best in tourists and locals and adding economic value if planned, developed and managed sustainably. It will be a useful resource for students and researchers in tourism, psychology and philosophy.

Review :
In moments of big crises and diminished well-being across the globe, this original contribution on tourism, hope and happiness could not have been more timely! The volume will have a global appeal to researchers, practitioners, students and educators with a more positive mindset, interested in a better tourism world. This thoughtful text is a fitting tribute to the legacy and ethos of the late Professor T.V. Singh and his co-editors Professors David Fennell and Richard Butler. The geographical, theoretical and methodological diversity of the contributions is impressive and showcases positive tourism as a force for good in challenging times.

...this book serves as a valuable resource for both academic and practitioner audiences interested in delving deeper into the dimensions of tourism that intersect with the human experience and well-being in various tourism contexts.
