Review :
English review follows Mae Llwybr Arfodirol Mn yn ein tywys ar hyd arfordir ein hynys fwyaf ond, yn wahanol i fwyafrif llyfrau teithio tebyg, lluniau gan yr artist Steven Jones syn darlunior 21 taith amrywiol a gynigir. Arddangosfa gan yr artist yn Oriel Mn fur sail ir llyfr ac er mair bwriad gwreiddiol oedd canolbwyntio ar thema hafaidd yn unig, fei swynwyd gan hanes yr arfordir ar golygfeydd amrywiol a phenderfynodd ehangur detholiad i gynnig darluniau o amrywiol olygfeydd yr arfordir yn ystod y pedwar tymor. Yn sicr, maer artist yn llwyddo i gyfleur amrywiaeth sydd yn perthyn i arfordir yr ynys. Y lluniau or traethau au bwrlwm yn ystod yr haf yw cryfder y casgliad gan iddynt hwy, ynghyd r lluniau o gerddwyr yn mwynhau golygfeydd llwybr yr arfordir, adlewyrchu atyniad yr ynys ir miloedd syn tyrru yno bob blwyddyn. Un canlyniad a ddaeth wrth lunior casgliad oedd ir artist sylweddoli y byddent yn addas ar gyfer delweddu llyfr teithio. Maer 21 o deithiau yn ein harwain i bob rhan or arfordir gyda mapiau o lawr artist a nodiadau defnyddiol in cynorthwyo, megis hyd pob taith a graddfa dwyster y daith ir cerddwr. Yn ychwanegol, mae Steven Jones yn cynnig cyfarwyddiadau manylach ar gyfer y teithiau unigol ar ei wefan. Mae cyfres o frasluniau yn ychwanegu at naws y llyfr ac yn gyferbyniad naturiol ir lluniau lliw. Ar ben hyn, maer artist yn cynnwys ychydig frawddegau i gyd-fynd phob llun lliw, sydd yn cynnig gwybodaeth amrywiol, megis pytiau hanesyddol ond, yn anad dim, yn nodi apl yr olygfa i lygaid yr artist. Mae Llwybr Arfodirol Mn yn llwyddo i gyfleu atyniad arfordir amrywiol yr ynys gan adael ir darllenydd ei fwynhau wrth eistedd gartref ond mae hefyd yn ein hysbrydoli i fynd allan i gerdded y glannau ac i werthfawrogi drosom ein hunain. Robin Evans ********************************************************* The Anglesey Coastal Path takes us on a journey along the coast of Wales largest island but, in contrast to similar publications, the 21 walks presented are illustrated by a total of 210 colour paintings by the artist Steven Jones. The inspiration for the book was an exhibition held in Oriel Mn and while the original aim was to concentrate on a summer theme, the rich history and sheer variety of the Anglesey coastline led the artist to expand the project to include paintings of various scenes along the coast during the four seasons. The artist certainly succeeds in reflecting the whole range of sights to be seen. For this reviewer the strength of the collection lies in the summer beach scenes which, in conjunction with the paintings of walkers enjoying the views along the coastal path, reflects the attraction of the island to those thousands of visitors who flock there year after year. While working on the project the artist realised that the paintings would also be suitable as illustrations for a walking book. Thus the 21 walks guide us with maps produced by the artist himself and useful notes providing details such as the length of each walk and a difficulty rating. A useful addition is that Steven Jones web site provides further details on each walk. A series of drawings adds to the books appeal and also contrasts neatly with the colour paintings. Brief journal notes with each painting provide useful information, historical details for example, and in particular gives us an insight into the attraction of the moment to an artists eye. The Anglesey Coastal Path succeeds in allowing the reader to enjoy in comfort the attraction of the islands coast but also inspires us to want to go out and appreciate those delights for ourselves.
