About the Book

Amongst the most turbulent events of the twenty-first century so far are the Manhattan Twin Tower Attacks on 11 September 2001 - "9/11" - and the election of Barack Obama as the first black president of the United States in November 2008. Densil Morgan was in America on both occasions, witnessing the excitement and upheaval which were experienced.

Review :
Athro yn Ysgol Diwinyddiaeth ac Astudiaethau Crefyddol Prifysgol Bangor ywr awdur, ac fel y mae enwr llyfr yn awgrymu, dyddiadur ydyw, neu gofnod oi ddau ymweliad Choleg Princetown, New Jersey, ar gyfnodau sabothol i wneud astudiaethau personol. Manteisiodd ar yr adnoddau sydd ar gael yn y coleg ai lyfrgell eang. Yn l yr hyn a ddywedir, dyma brifysgol a sefydlwyd mor bell yn l a 1746 gan fintai o weinidogion Presbyteraidd. Ganed yr awdur yn Lorain, Talaith Ohio, ac yno y treuliodd wyth mlynedd cyntaf ei fywyd cyn ir teulu ddychwelyd i Gymru, ac mae perthnasau eraill iddo yn dal i fyw yn yr Unol Daleithiau. Felly, nid tiriogaeth ddieithr mor taleithiau iddo gan iddo ymweld ag America nifer o weithiau dros y blynyddoedd. Eithr cofnodar llyfr fanylion dau ymweliad, sef 2001 a 2008 dyna pryd y digwyddodd dau beth a ysgydwodd y wlad fawr hon - ar byd, i raddau helaeth. Roedd yr ymweliad cyntaf, Medi--Rhagfyr 2001, yng nghysgod yr ymosodiad syfyrdanol ac arswydus ar y Tyrau Masnach ar 11 Medi, ar ail ymweliad yn cyd-daro r ymgyrch etholiadol ac, yn y diwedd, y canlyniad llwyddiannus i Barak Obama. Fel y cyfeirir mewn un man, nid oedd gan y bobl dduon mewn rhai o Daleithiau'r de yr hawl i bleidlais ddeugain mlynedd yn l, ac wele erbyn hyn un or hil yn y swydd fwyaf pwerus yn y byd. Roedd adeg ymweliad yr awdur yn 2001 yn un arswydus a chanlyniadaur ymosodiad yn drychinebus; ac yn 2008 gwelwyd ymgyrchu dygn a chanlyniad a oedd yn fater o orfoledd i gynifer. Meddai, 'Fy mraint annisgwyl y tro hwn yw cael rhannu yn eu gorfoledd. A gallaf ddweud wrth yr wyrion, trwy wasgu botwm, i mi chware rhan, fechan, fechan, fechan mewn creu hanes. Yn ogystal chofnodi digwyddiadau ar ddyddiadau penodol, fe ymdriniar awdur r arferion a berthyn ir wlad fawr hon -- ei chrefyddolder (eglwysi yn ffynnu, megachurches, math ar bentrefi cyfan syn isfyd crefyddol ar gyfer eu haelodau lle nad ywr byd yn cael ymyrryd dim...), ac maer de ceidwadol wedi bod mor amlwg a digyfaddawd yn ei hanes diweddar. Maen dadansoddin dreiddgar ond yn eglur y materion rheiny sydd yn rhan mor annatod o fywyd y taleithiau -- rhai agweddau syn wrthun i lawer ohonom, ond eto maen wlad syn hynod o ddiddorol ar lawer cyfrif. I mi'n bersonol, mae hanes y gwladychu a fu yn nhalaith Ohio, er enghraifft, gan y Cymry (yn bennaf o sir Aberteifi), yn siroedd Gallia a Jackson o, dyweder, 1935 ymlaen, yn rhywbeth i'w ryfeddu ato. Ceir yma gofnod hefyd o fywyd Goronwy Owen (1723--1769) a chanfod ei fedd yn Dolphin, Virginia, a chyfeirir at ddau a fun fyfyrwyr 'nl yn y 1960au, sef Gareth Alban Davies a oedd yng Ngholeg Dartmouth, New Hampshire, a Dewi Eurig Davies, a fu yn Richmod, Virginia. Ceir sylw hefyd at fedd y bardd, Dafydd o Went, yn Scranton, ar rhyfel cartref lle collodd llawer iawn o Gymry ifainc eu bywydau. Fe wnaeth y cynnwys ymddangos am y tro cyntaf mewn erthyglau yn y cylchgronau Y Goleuad, Y Tyst a Seren Cymru, ond da yw cael y casgliad mewn llyfryn poced 93 tudalen. Am 5.50 dyma gyfrol syn werth bob ceiniog. Gwerthfawrogwn yn fawr gymwynas Densil Morgan yn cyflwyno cyfrol mor ddiddorol i ni.
