About the Book

Throughout the centuries, Wales has raised many individuals who have shone on the playing grounds. Those talents are celebrated in this book, which includes a selection of poetry, by various authors, who have written about their idols, such as Colin Jackson, Tommy Farr, Ryan Giggs and Nicole Cooke.

Review :
Yn wyneb y diddordeb ysol mewn campau a chwaraeon o bob math a feddiannodd cymdeithas yn ein dyddiau ni, maen rhyfedd braidd inni fod cyhyd hyn cyn cael casgliad fel hwn yn ein dwylo. Dywedir wrthym mai ei thraethawd doethuriaeth ar y pwnc Chwaraeon mewn llenyddiaeth Gymraeg yw sail y gyfrol hon gan Lowri Roberts, syn esbonior tinc academig ac ysgolheigaidd a synhwyrir yn ei chyflwyniad. A chyflwyniad defnyddiol iawn ydyw. Ynddo ceir arolwg or rhan a fu i chwaraeon yn ein llenyddiaeth or gorffennol pell hyd heddiw, oherwydd fel y dywed y golygydd, bu gan y Cymry ar campau berthynas syn rhychwantur canrifoedd. Cyn dod at rygbi, pl-droed, criced ac amryw gampau cyfoes eraill, sonnir am chwarae broch yng nghod, cnau im llaw y cyfeirir atynt yn ein chwedlau an barddoniaeth gynnar, ac am ddifyrion llai adnabyddus ond tra gwaedlyd megis pelre phen Saeson. Campau eraill a fyddain ddifyrrwch ir werin lafurus a dioddefus gynt oedd cnapan, rhyw ffurf gynnar ar rygbi, ond nid llai corfforol yn l yr ychydig dystiolaeth sydd ar gael, a bando, chwarae ymhlith plwyfolion lle defnyddid clybiau pren amrwd i yrru pl o bwynt arbennig at un arall. O garreg filltir i garreg filltir y gyrrid hi yn l y cyn-archdderwydd J. J. Williams, Bardd y Lloer, yn ei ganig ddifyr Chwarae Bando na chafwyd lle iddi yn y gyfrol hon ysywaeth. Yn ogystal r to cyfoes o feirdd a ganodd ir campau hyn oll, ceir cerddi gan Lewis Glyn Cothi, Rhys Goch Eryri ac Edmwnd Prys a ganodd am bl-droed, er mai beirniadol iawn oedd or chwarae. Diddorol yn wir fyddai cael cerdd ganddo am antics rhai on prima donnas cyfoes, yn enwedig ar l sgorio gl. Denwyd rhai o enwau mawr yr ugeinfed ganrif i ddathlur campau hefyd, megis Gwenallt, Cynan, R. Williams Parry a Gwilym R. Jones, a byddain werth prynur gyfrol petai ond er mwyn darllen a mwynhau salmau mawl Dafydd Rowlands a T. James Jones i griced a chricedwyr. Dyma gyfrol syn haeddu croeso am ei newydd-deb ai chynnwys amrywiol. Dyma hefyd anrheg ddelfrydol i unrhyw un syn darllen ei bapur newydd or tudalennau cefn ir tudalennau blaen. Tegwyn Jones Gellir defnyddio'r adolygiad hwn at bwrpas hybu, ond gofynnir i chi gynnwys y gydnabyddiaeth ganlynol: Adolygiad oddi ar www.gwales.com, trwy ganiatd Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru.
