About the Book

The autobiography of Dan Puw, a farmer from Parc, near Bala, who's well known in Wales as a cerdd dant singer and teacher.

Review :
Dyma i chi un o’r llyfrau hynny yr oedd rhywun yn edrych ymlaen at ei weld ers blynyddoedd. Wedi darllen colofnau difyr Dan Puw yn Pethe Penllyn, papur bro’r ardal, fe wyddem fod deunydd chwip o lyfr yn ei feddiant. O’r diwedd dyma fo. Dawn fawr Dan Puw yw medru adrodd stori yn rhwydd a choeth gan adael i’r cymeriadau siarad drostynt eu hunain, ac mae yma lu o gymeriadau rhwng cloriau’r gyfrol hon. Cymeriadau oedd yn rhan ganolog o gymdeithas y Parc a chymeriadau oedd ar gyrion y gymdeithas honno hefyd. Mae yma straeon a wnaeth i mi chwerthin dros y lle wrth eu darllen, peth anarferol iawn i mi, rhyw werthfawrogi’n dawel fydd y duedd wrth ddarllen fel arfer. Ond mae ‘na glincars o storïau yma a’r rheiny’n cael eu dweud mor gelfydd fel nad ydy rhywun yn sylwi ar y grefft. Mae’r llyfr yn amhrisiadwy am ei fod yn cofnodi’r straeon llafar difyr yma, ond mae’n llawer mwy na hynny hefyd, mae’n gofnod o gyfnod ac o ffordd o fyw unigryw, ddiwylliedig, Gymreig. O ddarllen y gyfrol hon, fe ddaw rhywun i weld beth sy’n ein gwneud ni fel Cymry yn unigryw. Nid oes gan Dan Puw ofn mynegi ei farn chwaith, a hynny yn groyw iawn am ei bryderon a’i ofnau wrth i’r gymdeithas y mae’n ei darlunio newid a dadfeilio. Fel ym mhob hunangofiant mae yma ambell i gyfrinach yn cael ei datgelu, rhai cyfrinachau cymunedol fel y modd yr oedd ffrwydron yn diflannu o eiddo’r Weinyddiaeth Amddiffyn yn Nhrawsfynydd, a rhai eraill yn fwy personol o lawer. Fe gaiff rhywun y teimlad weithiau nad yden ni’n cael gwybod y cyfan a’i fod yn dal yn ôl ar ambell i bwnc, mae’n siŵr bod ganddo ddigon o ddeunydd i gyhoeddi sawl cyfrol arall, a gobeithio’n wir y gwnaiff o hynny. Ond yn y gyfrol hon cawn adnabod Dan Puw y ffarmwr, y cerdd dantiwr, y beirniad, dyn y band a’r hyfforddwr, ond yn bennaf oll cawn adnabod dyn sydd yn rhan annatod o’i gymdeithas a’r gymdeithas honno yn rhan annatod ohono fo.
