About the Book

About the Author :
Celia Eddy discovered patchwork in the 1970s and was fascinated by the infinite design possibilities of mosaic pattern. She has been quilting ever since and is also a keen researcher of the hisotry of patchwork and quilting in American and Brisith traditions. Celia is Acting Heritage Officer and coordinator of The Brisish Quilt Study Group, and a member of The Quilter's Guild of the British Isles. In between giving lectures and writing articles on quilt history, tradition and designs, Celia runs her own on-line quiling and patchwork magazine, Quiltstory (www.quilt.co.uk). She has wirtten articles for various quilting magazines including The Quilter and Magic Patch, and has co-written The Quilter's Handbook.

Oct 06 Another really useful book from Celia Eddy, especially as many of us have problems with putting colours together. The book features over 800 stunning colour variations for a wide range of traditional and contemporary quilting blocks. You can also learn the principles of colour theory and new ways of combining colour and pattern to produce different effect. July 2006 This is a very useful, compact and easy to read book. If you have ever doubted your choice of colour for Quilting projects, your worries are over. Celia Eddy explains the theories of colour clearly and with excellent illustrations. She uses 100 classic American quilt blocks as a foundation for a huge range of colour schemes. Each block is shown as a repeat pattern in 7 different colourways demonstrating the interaction between colour and pattern. The differences a change of tone or saturation of colour can make are amazing and the book is an excellent guide to developing your own skills with personal colour choices. A riot of colour and well explained. This book is ring bound and lies flat for easy reading. Nov 06 This is a compact book cleverly arranged to educate and assist quilters in making colour choices. It begins with clear explanations of words such as tone, tints, monochrome and the concept of the colour wheel. There is a section on selecting fabric and the importance of pattern. The greater part of the book shows 700 interesting colour combinations with accurate colour reproduction offering ideas for quilts, ranging from the harmonious to high contrast to the use of subtle shades and tints. The ring binding enables the reader to study many different colourways easily, as each double page shows seven possibilities of the same pattern. This book really needs to be viewed to appreciate its value and would make a useful addition to a quilter's library. Nov 06 Save a fortune by choosing great colour schemes before buying quilting and patchwork fabric with this helpful book...A hundred different classic American block patterns are shown in each of seven different colourways demonstrating a huge range of optical effects. By varying the colours between subtle and contrasting shades Celia demonstrates how to completely change the appearance of a block and emphasise different sections of the design. The book includes a good guide to basic colour theory and explains the principles of using a colour wheel to select different combinations. The patterns are grouped into colour themes of harmonious, complementary, saturated, tints and shades with each pattern being accompanied by a description explaining how the selected colours interact together. A diagram template shows the individual pieces of a block irrespective of colour. The book is in a handy spiral bound format making it easy for the reader to flick through and spot designs that have instant appeal. A final section on sashings and borders shows how to add the perfect finishing touch.
