About the Book

Publishing in time for National Poetry Day, this fun-filled and magic-packed book of poetry is perfect for reading aloud. Tony Ross's wonderfully humorous and energetic illustrations accompany the poems throughout. Adrian Mitchell and Tony Ross have worked together before on the Orchard list, with Balloon Lagoon. This collection received such praise as, "Here are the tunes that future generations will hum." Roger McGough "In the world of verse nobody has produced more surprising verse or more genuinely inspired fun than Adrian Mitchell." Ted Hughes

About the Author :
Adrian Mitchell is a prolific and esteemed writer for children, from plays to fiction. But he is best known for his lyrical, magical poetry. For Orchard he has already written three highly successful poetry collections, Balloon Lagoon, Dancing in the Street and The Orchard Book of Poems but this is his first collection targeted specifically at this age range. Adrian's popular poems and complete involvement in the poetry scene today has led him to be named the Shadow Poet Laureate. Tony Ross is one of the most highly regarded children's book illustrators in Britain with a huge fan base abroad as well. He has won many awards, including being Highly Commended for the Kate Greenaway and shortlisted for the Smarties Prize. He has also won the Silver Paintbrush Award three times, for best illustrations by a foreign artist. For Orchard he has illustrated several myths series, Balloon Lagoon and the One and Only books by Laurence Anholt. Tony lives in Wales.

Review :
Witty, playful, kind, poignant, moral but fun, with apt illustrations by Tony Ross, this is a book that I can see children picking up and enjoying for themselves, unassisted. - Books for Keeps
