The text is a catalogue of facts. This is especially true of the historical section which reads like a country house guidebook. There is little attempt to suggest the feel and ambience of this vibrant city, the native Cardiff population with their Care-diff accents, its Welsh language S4C scene, and the assimilated ethnic communities. However, this publication is colourful, factual, and succeeds in what it sets out to do, namely to provide a factual introduction to Wales’s capital city, and Europe’s youngest capital. The back cover states that this booklet is ideal for readers of all ages and it may well be used by schoolchildren to write essays and projects, as well as proving useful as an introduction to visitors and serve as a guidebook to the main sights of Cardiff.
