About the Book

This anthology consists of original compositions and arrangements as well as adaptations, arrangements and orchestrations of pre-existing compositions of Ron Westray, to date.
The stylistic considerations of jazz improvisation and composition require an extensive and working knowledge of jazz theory and mastery of diatonic, bitonal, poly-tonal and atonal theoretical maximums and processes. This anthology presents compositional references supporting historical maxims in jazz and modern composition.

About the Author :

Widely regarded as one of the greatest composers of our time, Ron Westray continues to expand upon the legacy set before him.

Review :

"As a fan and scholar of jazz who is not a musician, I find this collection of meticulously detailed manuscripts to reveal the methodical genius that makes jazz feel nothing less than magical when performed with honesty and skill. Here, Westray documents how jazz musicians draw upon the full resources of music theory in moments of performance that seem to reach beyond human capacity." —Gregory Clark, author of Civic Jazz (University of Chicago Press, 2015)
