About the Book

The global pandemic has changed the educational landscape. It literally closed down schools for more than a year, and paved the way for remote learning. Due to this educational setup, many students worldwide suffered, and continue to suffer, from learning loss. This book presents a teaching method - metacognitive strategies - that can help learners improve their comprehension, and help address this learning loss. The author discusses the theoretical underpinning of metacognitive strategy use and its effects on metacognitive awareness, self-efficacy, reading performance, and motivation, as well as providing practical guidance on how to use metacognitive strategies in designing engaging learning activities that promote collaboration among learners. The book will provide a valuable source of information for education students and teachers across many levels, and a useful and practical reference for college students and graduate students.

Review :
'Metacognitive Strategy Use and Curriculum Design' by Dr. Maria B. Ceque a offers a comprehensive exploration of integrating metacognitive strategies into educational curricula to combat learning losses exacerbated by the global pandemic. The author insightfully discusses the theoretical foundations of metacognition, examining its impact on learners' awareness, self-efficacy, reading performance, and motivation. Beyond theory, the book provides practical guidance for educators on designing engaging learning activities that foster collaboration and enhance comprehension. This work serves as a valuable resource for education professionals and students seeking to enrich their instructional approaches and improve learning outcomes.'- Jessie S. Barrot, PhD, Assistant Vice President for Research and Development, National University'This publication is timely and relevant. In this age where technology continues to be at its best and where learners easily get attracted to viewing excerpts from films instead of reading the original texts, reading has become almost unpopular among young and adult learners, thus impeding their capacity to develop their understanding of texts further. Maria Cequena's book "Metacognitive Strategy Use and Curriculum Design" responds to this demand and provides essential guidelines for making the students hooked to reading and becoming appreciative of what they read. The book covers essential information on how learners can develop their comprehension by encouraging the development and use of metacognitive strategies, enhancing their comprehension skills and ultimately leading to academic achievement Additionally, the material is very engaging and is a good reference material for teachers and education students. Aside from exposing them to the various reading concepts and literature in this area, it also fosters learner autonomy, making the readers and users of this book responsible for their own learning. This is the optimum goal of any reading program in the teaching-learning process.' - Professor Marilu Ra osa-Madrunio, University of Santo Tomas Manila, Philippines
