About the Book

Presentamos el estudio de una comarca natural, el Alto Almanzora, al norte de la provincia de Almeria (Espana), en la que llevamos a cabo 6 campanas de prospeccion arqueologica sistematica. Constituye una gran cubeta de 1675 km2, en el extremo oriental de la Cordillera Betica, que bascula hacia el mar Mediterraneo, con grandes diferencias de altitud entre sus bordes montanosos (llega a superar los 2000 m s.n.m.) y el fondo del valle. Su formacion geologica ha proporcionado todo tipo de recursos liticos, minerales, forestales, suelos para agricultura y pastos, a lo que hay que sumar sus recursos hidricos. Todo ello constituye un mosaico de diferentes entornos y contrastes en distancias cortas. En este trabajo se expone un estudio historico sobre un area del Sureste peninsular que constituia un vacio de investigacion, nos aproximamos al conocimiento de las sociedades que la ocuparon durante mas de 4000 anos hasta el final de la dominacion romana, a sus procesos de cambio y pervivencias siendo testigos del transito entre el interior y la costa. Exponemos los presupuestos teorico-metodologicos de los que partimos, la documentacion previa, el analisis de los datos obtenidos y finalmente procedemos a su interpretacion, coherente con todo lo anterior. Los resultados de los analisis de Termoluminiscencia han sido indispensables para este estudio diacronico de larga duracion. Se acompanan ademas otros estudios especificos sobre elementos arqueologicos como industria litica tallada y arqueometalurgia. Las tres autoras pertenecen al grupo de investigacion ABDERA (HUM-145) de la Junta de Andalucia, con sede en la Universidad de Almeria.

About the Author :
Catalina Martinez Padilla holds a PhD in History from the University of Granada (1979) and has been Professor at the University of Almeria. She has carried out numerous archaeological excavations and directed the surveys carried out in the Alto Almanzora between 1994 and 2002. She made a research stay at the University of Cambridge in 1989. Her research focuses on the Bronze Age and processes during prehistoric times. Maria de la Paz Roman Diaz is Full Professor in the area of Prehistory since 2016 at the University of Almeria (Spain) and Coordinator of the Master's in Advanced Studies in History: the Western Mediterranean World, since 2020. Her lines of research focus on early agricultural-livestock societies, sedentarization processes, territory occupation, resources and paleoenvironmental studies. She has participated in several research projects since those carried out in the Alto Almanzora and is currently participating in the R+D+i AQUIVERGIA project as a research member. Maria Juana Lopez Medina is Full Professor of Ancient History (Dept. of Geography, History and Humanities, University of Almeria, Spain). She obtained her PhD in History in 1997. Her research activity is focused on the analysis of the settlement of the Roman period in the southern peninsular, including paleoenvironmental reconstruction and water management, as well as the study of production models and social inequalities in the Roman world. She has participated in more than 10 R+D+I projects, and is currently co-IP of the AQVIVERGIA Project - Society-environment interaction in river basins of Southern Hispania: conceptualization and praxis.
