About the Book

Hyblaea: Studi di archeologia e topografia dell’altopiano ibleo is a collection of ten papers focusing on the prehistoric, late-ancient and medieval-historical archaeological heritage of the Hyblaean area and in the south-eastern apex of Sicily, with particular attention to rupestrian archaeology. They aim at deepening and updating our knowledge of the landscape in its many historical, material, productive, topographical, architectural and iconographical aspects.

About the Author :
Antonino Cannata graduated cum laude in Classical Archaeology (School of Specialization of Catania) with a Master's Degree in Ceramiche a pareti sottili ed altre produzioni fini da alcuni contesti siracusani. His research has focused on the transformation that occurred in the countryside of South-Eastern Sicily between the Hellenistic and medieval periods. For several years he worked for IBAM-CNR, by focusing on the material culture of roman age. From 2017, he has been the director of the Sicilian research centre Aditus in Rupe. Santino Alessandro Cugno is Archaeological Executive at the Parco Archeologico dell'Appia Antica (Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali e per il Turismo). He graduated cum laude in Archaeology (University of Pisa), with a Master's Degree in Tutela, Valorizzazione e Promozione dei Beni culturali e paesaggistici and two Postgraduate Diplomas, in Museology (Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa), and in Late Antiquity and Medieval Archaeology (School of Specialization of Florence). He has collaborated with the chair of Museology and Classical Archaeology (Kore University of Enna). Marco Stefano Scaravilli a Classical archaeologist. He Has taken part in many research projects, including the excavations of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Nea Paphos (Cyprus). He is currently an official at the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC) with responsibility for conservation and scientific research in the Tyrrhenian coast of Calabria and is director of the Archaeological Museum and park of Medma (RC). He published numerous studies in scientific journals and volumes. Antonino Cannata è archeologo classico specializzato negli studi sulla cultura materiale di età ellenistica e romana e, dal 2017, direttore del centro studi Aditus in rupe. Da diversi anni conduce ricerche sull’archeologia dei paesaggi ed ha coordinato alcuni progetti di studio e valorizzazione di siti rupestri della Sicilia sud-orientale. Ha partecipato a campagne di scavo e di ricerca in Sicilia in collaborazione con l’Università di Catania, con la soprintendenza di Catania e con l’Istituto per i Beni Archeologici e Monumentali del Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche (Catania). Ha all’attivo numerose pubblicazioni in riviste scientifiche e atti di convegni su temi concernenti l’archeologia urbana, le campagne, la cultura materiale e gli scambi tra l’età tardo imperiale e il Medioevo. Santino Alessandro Cugno è Funzionario Archeologo presso il Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica di Roma (MIC) e responsabile del Parco Archeologico delle Tombe di Via Latina. Specialista in Archeologia Tardoantica e Medievale, si occupa dello studio degli insediamenti rupestri della Sicilia sud-orientale e dell’Italia Meridionale e della Topografia antica di Roma e dell’Altopiano Ibleo. Ha partecipato a vari scavi e ricognizioni archeologiche e ha pubblicato monografie e numerosi articoli scientifici dedicati a differenti tematiche, con particolare riferimento alla topografia antica, all’archeologia del paesaggio, all’archeologia rupestre, alla storia dell’archeologia e alla museologia. Marco Stefano Scaravilli è Archeologo specializzato in Archeologia Classica. Ha preso parte a numerosi progetti di ricerca in Italia e all'estero, inclusa la missione archeologica italiana a Nea Paphos (Cipro), di cui è membro stabile. Attualmente svolge la mansione di funzionario archeologo presso il Ministero della Cultura con l'incarico di responsabile per la tutela e la ricerca scientifica di un ampio settore della costa tirrenica calabrese e della Piana di Rosarno e responsabile del Museo Archeologico di Medma-Rosarno (Rosarno-RC) e del Parco Archeologico dei Taureani (Palmi-RC). Ha pubblicato numerosi studi in riviste scientifiche e volumi.
