About the Book

A Military and Mission Critical Thriller, of Reconnaissance and Action set in The Aden Protectorate also in Thailand and Laos during both The Radfan Campaign and The Viet Nam War of the mid to late 1960s.   On the 14th December 1963, an emergency began in the British Aden Protectorate when the National Liberation Front (NLF) made a grenade attack against the British High Commissioner of Aden Sir Kennedy Trevaskis, as he arrived at Khormaksar Airport to catch a London-bound flight. The incident killed a woman and injured some fifty other people including the assistant commissioner who bravely saved Sir Trevaskis life himself dying of his wounds. From that day, a state of emergency was declared in Aden. The chronology and framework for this novel’s sequel come from official records and extrapolation of historical facts drawn from the confrontation between British Crown Forces and insurgents of rival organisations: firstly the Egyptian-supported National Liberation Front (NLF) and secondly the Front for the liberation of South Yemen (FLOSY), who continually attacked one another besides the UK Forces. The Emergency was triggered by Arab Nationalism attributed to the Arabian Peninsula and originating from the socialist and pan-Arabic doctrines of Egyptian leader Gamel Abdel Nasser. Josh Baines, Smudge Smith and Jonah Jones are despatched to the Aden Protectorate by the UK Foreign Office (Special Forces attached) Department to undertake covert surveillance assignments, in the Mountainous Southern Arabian hinterland of the Radfan Region and later similar duties in the Far East jungles of Thailand and Laos.
