About the Book

Our world is in a climate crisis. As the earth warms, increased floods, droughts, fires and disease threaten the people and the places we love. The poor already experience the impacts of this first and foremost, despite having contributed the least to the problem. Stories from our global neighbours clarify the challenge. This book invites Christians to take climate justice seriously. Through inspiring stories, creative reflection and biblical teaching, readers will come to understand and connect creation and justice to their faith. As a climate justice leader and campaigner, mother and pastor's wife, Jo Knight also shares her own story. This is a story of God growing a passion for caring for His creation and how Christians play an essential part. Called to Care will equip you with theological frameworks and practical application for lifestyle and prayer to respond and step into a Christian movement of love and action.

About the Author :
Jo Knight leads Christian responses to poverty and climate justice across the Australian and global Church. Jo is currently the CEO of Anglican Overseas Aid. She has worked as a refugee lawyer, led movements of people to tackle poverty, and forged a global Church response to the climate crisis - including at the UN Climate talks. She has served as Tearfund Australia's Advocacy Director, a leader with the Renew Our World movement and Micah coalition.

Review :
"Jo Knight's heart beats strongly through this book: her heart for people, for planet and, most of all, for Jesus. With decades of global experience in relief, development, advocacy and creation care, Jo understands the scale and seriousness of the issues and weaves together voices of hope and challenge from diverse cultures with deep biblical insights. Her desire is to see the full scope of the gospel transforming communities and places with the good news of the Kingdom of God in all its fulness. I encourage you to read this book, to reflect on God's call and to act in response." "Jo's passion and tireless advocacy for climate justice speaks through every page of Called to Care. Grounded in prophetic hope and resilience, she draws on Scripture, Pacific testimony and practical experience to offer churches a courageous roadmap from lament to transformative action. I endorse this timely book as essential reading for anyone seeking to embody Christ's love by safeguarding our Blue Pacific home, our global neighbourhood, and all creation." "Full of biblical insight and practical stories, this book gives us hope. Hope that Christians can once again proclaim, "the earth is the Lord's". In a world where the scale of crisis can leave us feeling weary or uncertain, Jo Knight offers a gentle but prophetic invitation to respond - not with fear or fatalism, but with faith. Rooted in Scripture and rich in lived wisdom, this book reminds us that biblical hope is not passive. It empowers us to act, to pursue climate justice with courage, grace and love. A timely resource to help Christians reflect deeply and advocate boldly." "It has been both a privilege and a joy to journey alongside Jo in our shared calling to creation care - planning and praying together, collaborating on campaigns and inviting the church to engage more deeply in this vital work. Called to Care is a beautiful expression of that journey. It reflects Jo's deep faith, her commitment to justice and her ability to listen to voices from around the world, including my own. This book will inspire you to reflect more deeply on your faith, and it will encourage you to act boldly and speak out with hope and conviction." "We live in a world with a deficit of hope. Called to Care offers a solid biblical foundation for a timely and much-needed response to one of the greatest challenges of our generation: God works through His Holy Spirit and His Church - that's us! With spiritual insight and practical wisdom, this book challenges Christians to rise up, take responsibility and become God's agents of change to heal His broken world." "My favourite Biblical text when confronted with the complex issues and challenges of climate justice is John 3:16. "For God so loved the world (Cosmos) that he gave his only Son..." From an Indigenous Christian perspective, this text articulates God's love for all His creation. As an Indigenous Christian climate justice advocate, I wholeheartedly commend Jo Knight's book. This timely work reminds us that addressing climate change is not only a moral imperative but a sacred calling - an act of love for God, for His creation, for each other and the generations yet to come. Rooted in Scripture and Spirit, this book powerfully calls the Church to embody justice, compassion and praxis for all His beloved creation." "Called to Care is a powerful and much-needed invitation to the Church to reclaim its biblical calling to justice, stewardship and compassion in the face of climate breakdown. With theological depth, personal stories and practical tools for action, Jo Knight challenges Christians to embrace a holistic discipleship that cares for both people and planet. This is a timely and hope-filled resource for churches seeking to respond faithfully and boldly to the greatest moral challenge of our generation." "In this compelling and uplifting book, Jo Knight invites us as her companions in a journey of call and response to the generational challenge of caring for God's creation. Sharing her faith insights and deep experience, Jo guides us to listen to God's call for holistic transformation in the world with its environmental crises, including through Scripture and spiritual reflection and through hope-filled testimonies from herself and other inspirational Christians. Jo then leads us to discern our own authentic response through prayerful and practical steps in an adventure of "spiritual rewilding": reimagining our own discipleship and the life-giving mission of the Church. This book is a precious and timely gift to nurture fresh hope and vital action."
