About the Book

A puffling has gone in search of adventure – now her puffin parents can’t find her anywhere! They talk to the seal and the gannet and the rabbit; they walk to the huts and the cliffs and the cove. They hear lots of stories of the puffling helping others, but they just cannot find their fluffy, black chick. Finally, they spot her – on a boat out at sea! The puffling is too small to fly home, so the animals of Skellig work together and come up with something very clever …

Review :
a lovely Irish tale … This picture book is beautifully illustrated; you could spend days admiring it. It’s a story that is close to home, based on the well-known islands off the Kerry coast. It has a fun interactive element for the young readers, where they can spot and point out where puffling is hiding on each page. This sweet book is available in English and as Gaeilge just might help keep your young children (or grandchildren) happy  We think this book is for children age 4 to 6. But the illustrations are really nice so maybe a 7 or 8 year old would enjoy looking at this book and reading it for their younger brother or sister. We give this book 10 out of 10 - By Cathal (6, Junior Infants) & Odhran (8, Second Class), St. Joseph’s NS, Tullamore already a hit … set on Skellig Michael and charting the adventures of a helpful little puffin a charming tale … with busy, cartoon-like illustrations … Children will enjoy finding the tiny Puffling on each page and the back-end papers show the names of each of the animals illustrated, from kittiwakes to conger eels – a nice touch’ … now available in Irish the scenery of Skellig Michael is excellently realised greatly enjoyed … a charming read gorgeous The story carries a powerful message that children will be able to connect with … The overall message of this story promotes acts of kindness. I commend Erika McGann for her brilliant adaptation of Sean’s story, and Gerry Daly for his beautiful illustrations which make this book so enjoyable to read a delightful Irish animal adventure and heart-warming debut picture book charming a delightful picture book … combines a heartwarming story with a timely message to look after our wildlife … beautifully illustrated and sure to become a favourite with young readers beautiful illustrations a stunning book Gerry Daly’s magnificent illustrations combined with Erika McGann’s engaging text as well as a detailed list of the island creatures is a pure treat for young readers From the moment I set eyes upon this beautiful book, its bright, beautiful, colourful and exciting cover enticed me to quickly jump into and explore its tale. My favourite part was following Puffling’s brave yet fun trek around Skellig. Although this book may be aimed at younger readers, I am ten years old and I loved it. I would recommend this book to anyone who is young at heart, has a love of wildlife and enjoys stories that include good morals. “Every day is a good day to have an adventure” Charmingly illustrated by Gerry Daly (whose uncle had the original idea for the book) ... a lovely story about friendship and helping each other delightful The drawings are remarkable… The expressions on the animals are great… The perspective, and the landscapes, there is a skill and a talent in that… It is a beautifully illustrated book wonderful …sure to delight younger readers … there’s great fun to be had on finding where the Puffling has hidden on each page and the phrase ‘Where Are You Puffling?’ just begs to be shouted out when reading it at bedtime. This will be one kids return to again and again for the sheer enjoyment of the adventure a charming picture book This sweet story of an adventurous young puffin will be enjoyed by readers aged 4+ who are curious about Irish native birds. Tá sé ar fáil anois as Gaeilge freisin, faoin teideal Cá Bhfuil Puifín Beag?
