About the Book

This workbook, based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP), teaches teens with OCD new skills to handle the stream of pesky obsessions that show up in their mind. It presents the Choice Point - a tool to help teens choose how to handle those tricky moments when dealing with unwanted thoughts. Chapter by chapter, teens learn powerful skills to unhook from their obsessions, including exposure exercises and strategies for accepting their emotions, and complete activities to help them overcome their compulsions, avoidant behaviors, and requests for accommodations. With real-life examples and tons of fun activities, this workbook shows that fears, worry and nervousness are a part of life and gives teens the skills to choose how to respond to their obsessions and move towards the stuff they really care about. Making applying ACT and ERP skills fun, it encourages them to face their fears and live life to the full.

Review :
Dr. Zurita Ona has crafted an impressive, easy-to-read, and extremely informative book to support adolescents with OCD. Following an ACT framework, concepts are clearly presented, evidence-based, and likely to be of great help. If ever there is a time choice is critically important, it's during adolescence--but choice can be particularly difficult for those with OCD. The ACT Workbook for Teens with OCD tackles exactly this. Using evidence-based therapy concepts, Dr. Zurita-Ona beautifully teaches teens how and why to make life-affirming choices that diminish the power of OCD and give rise to a full and meaningful life. A must-read for teens living with OCD. If you are a teen struggling with OCD, this book is for you! Dr. Z. will guide you through simple, engaging, step-by-step experiences to identify what matters to you and learn how to do more of it, turning OCD into background noise along the way. This book is a gamechanger! I have put it on my "must-read" list for my teen clients, their parents, and for any therapist working with individuals with OCD. This gem of a book is engaging, easy-to-read, and contains essential research-based tools to help teens recognize how to use their own strength, values, and their power of choice as weapons against the pain and suffering caused by OCD. I love that it can be used by teens and their families on its own or as a companion guide to use with a therapist. This book should be on every OCD Therapist's shelf! This workbook is such a wonderful addition to anyone trying to help a teen with OCD. It provides a simple and engaging way to view OCD and offers concrete ways to work on it. It is definitely a book I will be recommending! Dr. Z's teen-friendly workbook introduces the reader to OCD, ACT, Choice Points, and a large toolbox of skills through cartoon illustrations, diagrams, case presentations, quizzes, games and exercises. Engaging and informative, teens will find this workbook helpful in learning to better manage their OCD symptoms.
