About the Book

A stunning new edition of Lewis Carroll's classic children's tale. 'Curiouser and curiouser!' Reimagined by the illustrations of Kate Greenaway Medal winner Grahame Baker-Smith, this stunning new edition of a childhood favourite will transport a whole new generation of readers down the rabbit hole and into Wonderland. Conjured one 'golden afternoon' in 1867, the story of Alice has charmed readers for more than 150 years. Now readers can rediscover a host of favourite characters, from the despotic Queen of Hearts to the riddling Cheshire Cat, in a world where nothing is quite as it seems.

About the Author :
Lewis Carroll (Author) Charles Lutwidge Dodgson, better known as Lewis Carroll, was an English writer, logician and mathematician. Born in 1832, he is best known for the novels Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass, as well as his nonsense poems. The character of Alice was in fact based on a real child, Alice Liddell, daughter of the dean of Christ Church, Oxford, where Carroll taught mathematics. Many of the adventures in Wonderland are thought to be based on a picnic with Alice and her two sisters. By the time of Carroll's death in 1898, Alice in Wonderland was one of the most popular books in the English language, and it continues to be so to this day. Grahame Baker-Smith (Illustrator) Grahame is a self-taught illustrator from Oxford who completed his training at Berkshire School of Art. He has worked in illustration for twenty years and in 2011 won the Greenaway Medal for his inspiring tale of fatherhood, FARTHER. He has illustrated numerous other picture books for Templar, including The Rhythm of the Rain which won the English 4-11 Picture Book Awards and the Greenaway shortlisted Leon and the Place Between.

Review :
'Booktrust: "Brimming with exquisite artwork, the beloved story of The Wind in the Willows is now brought to life in a whole new way"' - Booktrust 'Absolutely Mama: This Hardback edition of The Wind in the Willows has rich and atmospheric illustrations by award-winning artist Grahame Baker-Smith. A Wonderful way to introduce your little ones to this classic story and its themes of nature and friendship.' - Absolutely Mama 'Read It Daddy (Book Blogger): "A gorgeous gift edition of one of the most timeless and well-loved children's classics, beautifully illustrated by a master of evocative and atmospheric paintings for children's books."' - Read It Daddy ' Book blogger (Book Murmuration) - "Many talented illustrators have produced an edition of the story, most notably Arthur Rackham, but I jumped up and down in excitement when I heard about this edition. Grahame Baker-Smith is a Kate Greenaway Medal-winning illustrator and his work captures the magic and mystery in the everyday. This comes into its own in illustrations of the Wild Woods and the River itself. There are illustrations in different styles - full-page colour illustrations which look almost like film concept art in their energy and sense of movement and smaller, sepia and similarly muted colour pictures at the head of or to the side of the text. The design is glorious too, with the ripples and willow branches of the end pages repeating at the chapter headings. Both the high quality of the illustration and the way this has been presented make it an edition to treasure. A beautiful copy of a classic which would make a beautiful present this holiday season." ' - Book Murmuration
