About the Book

Everything around us – trees, buildings, food, light, water, air and even ourselves – is composed of minute particles, smaller than a nanometre (a billionth of a metre). Quantum physics is the science of these particles and without it none of our electronic devices, from smartphones to computers and microwave ovens, would exist. But quantum physics also pushes us to the very boundaries of what we know about science, reality and the structure of the universe. The world of quantum physics is an amazing place, where quantum particles can do weird and wonderful things, acting totally unlike the objects we experience in day-to-day life. How can atoms exist in two places at once? And just how can a cat be dead and alive at the same time? Find out more with this entertaining illustrated guide to the fascinating, mysterious world of quantum physics.

Review :

Bright and stylishly retro… readers will come away with plenty of new vocabulary, plus nodding acquaintances with Einstein and other greats, Schrödinger's cat, and the central role of quantum physics in current and future tech.

Filled with colorful and playful illustrations by graphic designer Eduard Altarriba, the book provides a basic introduction for children as young as eight to the development and key concepts of that highly complex subject.

There are many graphics on each page, including pop-out boxes, cleaver graphics, and bold colors. This abundance of graphics, in addition to text of different sizes and colors, helps define vocabulary words and explain concepts. The final pages summarize how we use quantum physics today and what the future could hold for the field. The text also contains a quantum timeline, laid out in a colorful format, as well as a list of famous mathematical equations, including what they are called and who wrote them. The book could be read by interested younger elementary school-aged students with an adult, as an introductory text for middle school students, or as a review for students who have been already introduced to the concept of quantum physics.

Written much like a coffee-table book for kids, this beautiful book excels at graphic design, with short sections and boxes where young readers can jump in and out of segments about famous scientists, classic experiments, basic concepts, and some experiments they can try themselves. From the periodic table to quantum entanglement, complicated topics are presented in an approachable way, and at least give young readers the basic concepts.

Quantum physics has an image problem. Spooky, wacky, strange—the adjectives often used to describe its inner workings—paint a picture of an esoteric discipline. Yet, it is the rules of quantum physics that dictate the structure of matter, that help interpret the signals from distant stars, and that make your smartphone run. This message is nicely conveyed in My First Book of Quantum Physics… The illustrations are clear, eye-catching, and consistent… The book leaves young readers with a sense of quantum physics as a vibrant, active pursuit that has and will continue to influence their lives in very real ways.

This book is a brilliant introduction to the world of quantum physics… There is something in the book for everybody. I would recommend this book to anybody who is interested in what the world is made of, anybody who loves to ask questions and anybody who loves science.

Educator Ferrón takes a lively approach to quantum physics, detailing the history of classical physics and introducing key concepts. Models and charts offer concrete representations of concepts, while a spread devoted to future uses for modern physics (teleportation, flexible screens, nanorobots) should further captivate readers.

It is absolutely stunning & super BURSTING with facts for +8 year olds

With experiments, facts and figures this illustrated guide is a perfect buy for any wannabe scientist.

The illustrations and graphics in this book are sensational… Non-fiction is upping it's game in styling and illustrative-style and this is a perfect example of why non-fiction books need not be dull, dry and boring when they can be cool, entertaining and fun!

This book builds on the practical with a ton of really awesome theoretical and descriptive information on practical science and will definitely serve as a superb conversation point for many years to come. Some really awesome stuff about atomic structures and the theories surrounding the creation of our universe. Superb stuff!

An excellent first look at this complex science… a beautifully presented non-fiction book that children of a wide range of ages can enjoy. the illustrations are bright and inviting and combined with key facts and concepts, it provides big ideas in a real child friendly way. If you weren't already into science, My First Book of Quantum Physics could be the thing to change your mind as this guide makes everything that little bit clearer and adds a certain amount of fascination to this underrated subject.

Woah! Mind blowing stuff made simple, with eye catching infographic style illustrations!

The book is attractive and inviting, and hopefully it will encourage children to explore this amazing world of quantum physics… a very interesting book for all ages for a simplified peek at a very complex subject.

It seems an impossible topic but the authors succeed brilliantly in making the world of quantum physics clear and understandable through the role it plays in our everyday lives. The book relies heavily on visual impact, with colourful layouts, masses of explanatory diagrams and friendly cartoon characters to help readers understand; the explanations are clear and concise every user-friendly. Who would have thought quantum physics could be so engrossing? Perfect for all ages, to really encourage an interest in science and to de-mystify it.

A great starter book for any child who is showing so much willingness to learn or for those who are struggling to get to grips with science at school.  It is, therefore, a book for all levels and even for us adults if we've forgotten or got lost along the way.

A perfect book to start our Science collections. It is a book I think I will be referring back to for years to come.

A fantastic resource.

I love its bright and happy style and the plethora of facts and information to pour over. This one is definitely for all those budding scientists out there!

The way Quantum Physics is broken down in this work of art, makes it interesting for kids. If you have a child that is into STEM, I highly recommend this.

This exceedingly informational tome introduces young readers to the science of understanding our reality… Wow. This was EDUCATIONAL, not only for little ones but for readers of any age. The illustrations have a wonderful retro vibe that perfectly compliments, rather than competes, with the information. Baby Bookworm approved!

This book is great to introduce key concepts to children (and their parents!) in the most simplest and entertaining way possible. It's given my kiddies the chance to discover particles and photons, radioactivity and the structure of the atom, as well as reading about famous scientists of the past.

A stylish look at Quantum theory, and the physicists behind great discoveries.

Now you would think just by reading these topics that it wouldn't be of interest to young.  But, you are wrong.  This book is written especially for young children, to introduce them to the key concepts of quantum physics, in the easiest and most entertaining way possible. If your children love science or are just curious about the world around them, then you should consider picking up this Button Books children's book, My First Quantum Physics Book.

When I hear terms like elementary particles, my mind runs to the massive crumbs left in the middle school lunchroom. Or quantum entanglements fills my mind with visions of playground altercations needing attention. But, what if the concepts of quantum physics were introduced in an easier and more entertaining way? These authors have lifted the gray haze, and brought the quantum world to our fingertips. Children (and adults) will enjoy pushing the boundaries of what we call reality, and stepping into the quantum world!

The very friendly illustrations, and quite large font size in this book belies the difficultly level of the subject matter and text in this absorbing yet challenging physics book. This is an exciting book in that it leads to further thought and investigation rather than just imparting knowledge. There are good colourful graphics that attempt to illuminate the harder principles… Amusing, stimulating and challenging – an awesome if ambitious science book.

With lovely coloured illustrations, the contents cover a vast range of topics in a fairly slim book. There is plenty more in this black hole of a knowledge book – mind you don’t get sucked into it.

This amazing book is aimed at children aged 8+ so I thought I would show it to DS9 today to see what he thought of it. He wasn't fazed by the fact that it's known to be one of the hardest subjects to study, he just opened it up like a regular book, read the simple information and studied the eye-catching illustrations.

My First Book of Quantum Physics is an entertaining illustrated guide which explains key concepts and big ideas in a simple and accessible way, giving children a fun and engaging introduction to the fascinating and mysterious world of physics. It’s a great way to enthuse them with STEM subjects in general and Physics in particular.

The way this book is written is a masterpiece. Things I’ve never ever been able to wrap my mind around are presented with such clear language and examples. If you have an older child, this would be the perfect book to start getting back into the school frame-of-mind, but in a fun, summer way.

A Thrilling But Totally Believable Murder Mystery

Read this in one evening. I had planned to do other things with my day, but it was impossible to put down. Every time I tried, I was drawn back to it in less than 5 minutes. I sobbed my eyes out the entire last 100 pages. Highly recommend!
