About the Book

Just like you, Dr Michael Brooks and Rick Edwards have watched movies and been sucked into those fictional worlds. Unlike you, they've written an amusing book exploring and unpicking these much-loved stories, revealing the science within. They've chatted to some of the most respected names in science to get to the bottom of these alternate realities. And if at any point the reader is confused, relax - so is Rick. And he makes sure Michael explains it clearly. Based on their hit podcast, this popular (hopefully) science (definitely) book dedicates each chapter to an iconic movie, and seeks to answer the key questions arising from it. From Jurassic Park (Could we ever bring back extinct species?) to The Matrix (Is it possible we're living in a computer simulation?), this is a wild ride through modern astrophysics, biology, neuroscience, behavioural science, technology, and lots of other-ologies. Illustrated with shots from classic films, and highly designed throughout, this hilarious, informative book is an essential gift for your inner geek (or at least one you know).

About the Author :
Rick Edwards is a writer and television presenter. His debut book None of the Above, which explained the political landscape in the UK, reached number 5 in the overall Amazon UK chart. Rick has a Natural Sciences degree from Cambridge but only dimly recalls it. He has over 277,000 Twitter followers. Dr Michael Brooks is an author, journalist, writer and something of a founding father figure at the New Scientist, where he remains Editor-at-Large. His biggest accomplishment to date is not the PhD in Quantum Physics - it's writing Rick's favourite popular science book, 13 Things That Don't Make Sense, which has sold over 200,000 copies worldwide.

Review :
Bright, nerdy and funny! Of course I loved it. * Dara O' Briain, comedian and television presenter * Fascinating and hilarious. What a wonderful book. Rick and Michael take you on a whirlwind guide around the science you don't know and the movies that you do. You will feel cleverer after reading this. * Richard Osman, co-host of Pointless * If you are a geek, a film buff, curious or simply want to know whether you still get BO in space, this is the book you have got to have. * Kate Humble - BBC TV presenter and author of Humble by Nature * Deeply funny, academically accomplished, and unfalteringly engaging. Entertaining as it may be, it's difficult to escape the fact that Edwards and Brooks have just made the world of popular science much harder work for the rest of us. * Ben Miller - comedian and author of It's Not Rocket Science * Informative and captivating... Cult podcasters Michael Brooks and Rick Edwards lead a jolly romp through the borderlands of research, sci-fi and movies. * Roger Highfield - Director of External affairs at the Science Museum and former editor of the New Scientist * A terrific, engaging read that brings to life some of the fascinating science that lies behind the movies. * Johnjoe McFadden, Professor of Genetics, University of Surrey * As a series, it works beautifully...delivered with both enthusiasm and a reassuring dose of scepticism. * The Financial Times on the Science(ish) podcast *
