About the Book

In the face of climate change, biodiversity loss, increasing pollution, and the destruction of natural habitats, how can Christians responsibly care for the environment and sustain life? Building on emerging ecotheological and social-action scholarship, this book brings together twenty scholars to develop a Pentecostal missiology addressing the environmental crisis. Rich and comprehensive, the authors engage in critical biblical analysis of texts that provide an imperative for creation care, theological Pentecostal scholarship on mission and environmentalism, case studies from around the globe that illuminate current and emerging Pentecostal environmental mission praxis, and ecumenical dialogue between Pentecostal churches and the wider church's past. This is a must-read for all scholars, church leaders, and Christians engaged in missional work as it intersects with environmental care.

Review :
This diverse edited collection, encompassing an impressive array of authors from numerous global regions, is a crucial contribution to ecotheological literature. It challenges the false assumption that Pentecostalism does not take environmental, ecological and social issues seriously. This is a scholarly book that deserves to be widely read and discussed. Celia Deane-Drummond, PhD Director, Laudato Si' Research Institute Senior Research Fellow, University of Oxford, UK As this volume amply illustrates, Pentecostal scholars from around the world are now making crucial contributions to Christian ecotheology that express a distinctive vision and lure. Ecumenical ecotheology cannot flourish without such life-giving Pentecostal contributions and the spirit of collaboration that is evident in this volume. Ernst Conradie, PhD Professor of Religion and Theology, University of the Western Cape, South Africa With scholarly depth, global diversity and profound pastoral concern, Wonders Above, Signs Below brings together voices from across the globe to explore the Spirit's call to love, protect and restore the earth. This book is essential reading for pastors, theologians and all who believe the Spirit's renewal embraces the whole creation. Graham Joseph Hill, PhD, OAM Associate Professor, Charles Sturt University, Australia Within the pages of this book, you will discover a mature and global conversation, one crafted with careful biblical and theological analyses. In my estimation, this timely intervention represents the best of a maturing Pentecostal movement. Cheryl Bridges Johns, PhD Director, Pentecostal House of Study, Distinguished Visiting Professor, United Theological Seminary, Ohio, USA Wonders Above, Signs Below makes a profound and lasting contribution to ongoing conversations about faith, justice and responsible stewardship of creation - an essential read for anyone committed to a transformative theology of life and care for our planet. Chammah J. Kaunda, PhD Academic Dean, Oxford Centre for Mission Studies, UK Extraordinary Professor, Christian Spirituality, Church History and Missiology, University of the Western Cape, South Africa
