About the Book

Having been scarred by a childhood which featured regular bouts of physical and mental abuse imposed by draconian parents it was hardly surprising that my repressed emotions left me ill equipped for eventual fatherhood. Consequently, I was incapable of relating to my children and despite my best efforts to overcome very conflicting feelings I suffered an emotional breakdown from which I successfully recovered by embarking on a programme of self help. And that was just the early part of my Iife which has mostly been colourful, turbulent and unconventional. When I was fifty years old I took the biggest gamble of my life when I stuck two fingers up to a soul destroying and stressful career in the City, a marriage which had been going rapidly downhill and without warning fled three hundred miles until I reached the coast of west Wales where I made a new life despite having saved little money. Eventually after working for the summer in a holiday hotel which could in some respects be likened to Fawlty Towers life improved considerably when I took to the country life, lived in a caravan on a smallholding and farmed sheep and poultry while successfully evading debt collectors. What I lost materially (like everything) was a small price to pay for what ultimately became an infinitely happier, healthier and rewarding life far away from the hustle and bustle of the overcrowded south east. My life has also been a little different inasmuch that I was born with second sight a faculty which has underpinned my life since childhood and for many years I was a palmist and a tarot reader. Above all Showing My Hand, endeavours to entertain the reader and has been written for every free spirit. A misery memoir it is not!
