Review :
Thrilling characters and expertly written, down to the very last detail. I didn't actually have time to read, and did everything to try to put the book down. But I simply couldn't. Not until the last page had been read. Skilful, thrilling, and unexpected Wickedly complex, macabre, and highly entertaining! It is, ultimately, a story about love, loss, murder, abuse, and obsession. The writing is clever and precise. The characters are damaged, lonely, and despondent. This is an intriguing, debut psychological thriller that is perfect for fans of Jo Nesbo or Henning Mankell Original & exciting with a shocking and satisfying ending. I couldn't help but like Peter the main detective in the story disputed his having more problems and issues than the murderer! I hope he appears in another book and that Hanne survives to once again help him solve the crime. I can't say more without giving spoilers so will simply end by heartily recommending this fabulous book This book is excellent. All the characters were believable and their backstories handled sensitively, none more so that Hanne. I am really impressed with Grebe's talents and look forward to reading more. In an overcrowded genre, this is a refreshing and incisive voice This is a cleverly plotted mystery with a tremendous cast of characters, particularly the police team assigned to the case. This one is an all-nighter A clever and addictive psychological thriller with some great main characters A high-profile Swedish novel . . . that lives up to its reputation . . . Cross-cutting between the characters at an ever-increasing pace, this is Scandi-noir at its powerful bleakest Captivating story...the three unreliable narrators deftly ensure readers' certainties stay on very thin ice This gripping story of murder, love and betrayal is perfect for fans of noir Scandi drama The Bridge A complex, macabre and utterly captivating thriller. Grebe's first solo flight is a triumph It's complex, and as you read it, it is hard to even guess at what's going on under the surface. This isn't a weakness, it's just a puzzle, and the power of the writing. plotting and general structure is such that you more than stick with it, sure the writer is leading you somewhere. It was disturbing, and exercises the grey matter, but was unputdownable. I didn't read it before I needed to go to sleep. BEcause I would be tossing, turning, and fretting. A must read book about obsession, betrayal and of course, love. Highly recommended There was enough in this book to keep me invested in the characters and it also had me guessing. What more could you want from a book as though colder months begin to set in? Really got hooked on The Ice Beneath Her - a clever and addictive psychological thriller with some great main characters (one of whom I disliked to the point of loving) and a lovely twisty turny whodunnit at the heart that will keep you on your reading toes Set in Sweden this psychological thriller is one that will chill you as much as thrill you Compelling Full of complicated and interesting characters, intrigue and deception, and a twist that I didn't entirely see coming, Grebe is an author that is on my radar now I started it in the evening, took it to bed with me and read the whole thing in one sitting from cover to cover. Yes, it's that unputdownable! I wish all Scandi crime was done as brilliantly as this! I hope that Camilla Grebe's next book lives up to this fabulous debut Well-written, well-planned and well-executed this book will hopefully be the forerunner of more to come. Thoroughly enjoyable For this is a dark read, violent too. An opening crime scene I'm not going to forget in a hurry! What is really clever however is the dark, slow undercurrent of something evil, something not quite right from the very beginning - a lot of twists and turns and a link to a crime from the past. And I tell you what - the ending is a humdinger...A standout thriller If you like your gritty dramas brutal and macabre, then this tense thriller will not disappoint...This Swedish novel, which is perfect for fans of Jo Nesbo, is unsettling, menacing and compulsively written. It also delivers a rewarding ending that we did not see coming - one that stayed with us long after we stopped reading.' A salutary reminder that the talented Grebe deserves the kind of breakthrough some of her less accomplished peers have already enjoyed. Her protagonist here, Emma, is subtly realised... There is some very clever plotting in this book, it's very dark and disturbing, Grebe weaves together twists and turns that have the reader guessing at what might happen next. I feel that I should praise the translation of this book. All too often when a book is translated into English, something can be "lost" but I am so pleased that is not the case with this one. It has the hallmarks of a Scandi thriller, cold, dark and direct which really work well here, making this one of the best books I've read this year A plot that snakes its way into unpredictable directions when you least expect it and keeps the reader alert at all times, allied with particularly strong characterisation make this a psychological thriller of note. Obsession, madness, nail-biting suspense...at all times severely addictive... As well as being an intriguing, fast-paced, page-turner of a psychological thriller, the book addresses the bigger issues of commitment, betrayal and loss and their effect on the individual... this is her debut as a solo author and it is a very accomplished and rewarding read. While it is a rewarding personal read, it is also a strong contender for inclusion in book group reading lists because there is no shortage of material for discussion I found this novel simply unputdownable. I had it read in three days and would have finished it sooner if I could have! The characters each have a fascinating and engrossing back story...a great writer makes characters come alive on the page, and within a short space of time, I felt I could have been in that small cold apartment where Emma lived. The characters are vividly portrayed with subtle nuances that make them all the more realistic. This is an utterly captivating read with memorable characters and gripping action. I highly recommend this book. An enthralling page turner. Rush out and buy it! Hanne is a wonderful character, and it is her struggles, her insights, her triumphs that make this novel the wholly satisfactory work it is I loved the suspense build up from this character perspective The story flows at a fast pace, that makes for gripping reading. Set against the bleak backdrop of winter in Sweden, this gives the book an element of despair to the dark tale. A gripping page turner that keeps the reader engaged, The Ice Beneath Her is a dark and twisted story that makes for unexpected reading, perfect for fans of Jo Nesbo. The split narrative, in terms of both voice and timeline works well and the readers is pulled in various directions before the final reveal · It is a very fast paced read (...)The twist was extremely clever and I didn't work it out so it was very surprising and well written Deserves to be called a page-turner - I read it in one sitting! Scandi Noir in the best traditions of the Genre (...) As a big fan of Scandi Noir, I was hooked from the first page and couldn't put it down; I can't wait for Grebe's next novel! (...) , this is a book which you simply MUST beg, steal or borrow, and then do what I did; curl up in a comfy chair with a glass of wine and a box of chocolate eclairs, and enjoy!! The Ice Beneath Her by Camilla Grebe is a clammy, Scandi-noir psycho thriller that you will roar through over the holidays This disturbing psychological thriller, constructed around a decent solid detective-story plot, deals with themes of love, betrayal and obsession, and also the lengths people will go to to fight for what's their right or what they feel need to be done to take revenge....the novel heads towards a shocking, unforgettable finale. In this stunning outing, Grebe flies solo for the first time with a gripping novel full of spine-tingling psychological tension, outrageous plot twists and a stellar cast of three fiendishly unreliable narrators, all linked by one horrific crime... The Ice Beneath Her is a complex, intelligent, multi-layered thriller dripping in angst, mystery, suspense and dangerous unpredictability. The truth always remains a slippery commodity in this fascinating white-knuckle ride as Grebe takes us gently by the hand through a series of shocking revelations, and then propels us mercilessly into a maelstrom of secrets, lies, madness and vengeance. I found this novel simply 'unputdownable'. A great writer makes characters come alive on the page and within a short space of time, I felt I could have been in that small cold apartment where Emma lived. This is an utterly captivating read with memorable characters and gripping action. I highly recommend this book. An enthralling page turner. Rush out and buy it! It's the snow, the Jo Nesbo connotations and the range of characters and their issues which makes this a stand out thriller. The premise is rather unique too - a profiler with dementia and an unidentified victim, a detective with problems of their own, and a missing man who no one seems to like.
