About the Book

A novel about a young Welsh woman who works as a WPC in the Met in London. She has her feet in two camps, but nothing is black and white, and it's never easy to differentiate between rogues and angels, wherever they live.

Review :
Beth sy gan gaeau cefn gwlad Cymru a strydoedd llygredig Llundain yn gyffredin? PC Carys Jones! Merch y mynydd wedi troi’n ferch y Met yw Carys, ac mae ganddi droed mewn dau fyd gwahanol iawn. Ar y naill law mae ei phen yn llawn dihirod, trosedd a phrotestiadau, ac ar y llall, ffermio, teulu ... a chariad. Ond does dim byd yn ddu a gwyn, ac yn fuan, daw Carys i ddeall nad yw’n hawdd gwahaniaethu rhwng y diawliaid a’r angylion ... yn unman. Dyma’r nofel gyntaf i oedolion gan Eiry Miles. Rhaid cyfaddef i mi gael fy siomi ar yr ochr orau wrth ddarllen Glas a Gwyrdd gan Eiry Miles. Wrth godi’r llyfr oddi ar y silff lyfrau am y tro cyntaf a darllen y broliant ar gefn y llyfr, cymerais yn ganiataol mai stori am blismones yn y Met yn ceisio datrys un drosedd a geir yn y nofel. Yn hytrach, drwy gymeriad Carys y blismones ifanc wyth ar hugain mlwydd oed o gefn gwlad Sir Gaerfyrddin, rydym yn dysgu llawer iawn am fywyd go iawn plismones ifanc wrth ei gwaith yng nghanol dinas Llundain, wrth iddi orfod delio â sawl trosedd. Ar un wedd mae Carys yn ferch ifanc sy’n ymddangos yn gymeriad cryf a chaled. Ei gyrfa sy'n cael y flaenoriaeth bob tro, wrth iddi orfod delio â marwolaeth hen ŵr yn ei fflat, camdriniaeth rywiol, ymddygiad gwrthgymdeithasol a phrotest enfawr tu allan i San Steffan. Fodd bynnag, wrth ddod i adnabod Carys yn well daw’n amlwg i’r darllenydd bod ochr arall i gymeriad Carys, ochr fwy meddal sy’n gwneud i’r darllenydd gydymdeimlo’n llwyr â hi. Wedi’r cwbl, menyw ifanc sy’n ceisio torri ei chŵys ei hun ar lefel broffesiynol ac ar lefel bersonol yw Carys, fel unrhyw ferch ifanc wyth ar hugain mlwydd oed. Ochr yn ochr â bywyd byrlymus Carys yn Llundain ceir darlun o fywyd ei magwraeth draddodiadol ar y fferm deuluol ym mherfeddion cefn gwlad sir Gaerfyrddin, a dylanwad hynny ar ei chymeriad. Er nad yw cymhlethdodau bywyd cefn gwlad Cymru yn bwnc newydd ym myd y nofel Gymraeg, yr hyn sy’n braf am nofel Eiry Miles yw ei bod hi’n eu portreadu drwy gymeriad Carys a’i chwaer fach Rhiannon. Er bod Carys yn mwynhau mynd yn ôl i’r fferm a’i chynefin, daw’n amlwg nad oedd bywyd yno yn fêl i gyd. Camp fwyaf Eiry Miles yn y nofel yw ei gallu i ddod â digwyddiadau tywyll a threisgar bywyd y ddinas yn fyw i’r darllenydd, ochr yn ochr â golygfeydd ysgafnach sy’n cael eu harwain gan gymeriadau ymylol. Mae helyntion carwriaethol Carys, a'i chyfeillgarwch â Lleucu a Rhydian, ei ffrindiau pennaf yn Llundain, yn ychwanegu hiwmor ac elfen o normalrwydd i fywyd y blismones ifanc. Dyma nofel ddinesig gyfoes, sy’n gwrthgyferbynnu bywyd y ddinas â bywyd cefn gwlad Cymru heddiw. Mae’n un o’r nofelau hynny yr ydych yn siŵr o uniaethu â hi mewn rhyw ffordd neu’i gilydd. Nofel gyntaf Eiry Miles i oedolion yw Glas a Gwyrdd, ac yn barod rwy’n edrych ymlaen i ddarllen mwy gan yr awdures!
