About the Book

After discovering the remains of Crowland Abbey deep in the fens by chance, Peter Jeevar was fascinated and determined to find out more about Crowland and its saint. Not finding much in the way of written documentation, the author has used his imagination to weave those facts that he did find into this story of the life and death of Saint Guthlac of Crowland - soldier, hermit and saint. Saint Guthlac 673-714 AD

About the Author :
Peter Jeevar left school in April 1940 with no academic qualifications but a sound knowledge of pumping water out of the school's air raid shelters and digging for victory. He fought with the Glasgow Highlanders across Holland and North Germany, coming to an abrupt stop on the outskirts of Bremen, suffering - according to records - from battle fatigue. On leaving the army in 1946 he initially sought a quieter life, firstly in a military cemetery and later in a quiet crematorium before getting involved with the exciting world of plant hire. Peter spent twenty-eight years in Galloway, Scotland, following his forced retirement from a very physical job as a plant operator (earth-moving). After the death of his gardening partner, Joan, Peter was no longer able to wrestle with 2.5 acres of trees, shrubs and flower beds and moved back to Cambridgeshire to the flat fens, into a small house with no garden. Here you will find him sitting at his kitchen table writing, painting or drawing, then wondering where he can store all these works in such a small cottage!
