About the Book

On a chilly Saturday evening in September, sixteen thousand people gather in the shadows of Battersea Power Station for the Shine Walk, a 26 mile trek around London in aid of Cancer Research. Everyone has a story to tell, but none more so than Ben...  Ben hasn’t chosen to be there. He is taking the place of his free-spirited girlfriend, Summer, who has recently passed away from cancer. As Summer lay dying in their Battersea flat, heartbroken Ben knew the Shine Walk was one last thing he must do for her. But what starts out as a wretched evening for Ben develops into a journey of redemption when he meets the seemingly unremarkable Annie. Encouraged by Annie, Ben’s story unfolds as the walk progresses with tales from his scrapbook of memories. His relationship with Summer is inextricably linked to the locations they pass – from the statue of a dog in Battersea Park, to the curse of the Deadly Purple Sapphire in the Natural History Museum, and on to University College, where Summer was the inspiration for Ben to start his scrapbook. And Annie knows there is something more, that her companion has a desperate story that needs to be told. Ben is haunted by guilt as much as grief and it is only when they reach Tower Bridge that Ben finally reveals Summer’s devastating secret. A secret that Annie couldn’t foresee. A secret that drove Ben and Summer apart. A tragic love story interwoven with fascinating excerpts from London’s rich history, A Scrapbook for Summer will shatter your heart, pick up the pieces and put it back together again. Inspired by books such as One Day by David Nichols and The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, A Scrapbook for Summer is a tale of love and loss that will appeal to fans of romance novels.
