Review :
Wele'r pedwerydd rhifyn yn y gyfres Astudiaethau Athronyddol, cyfrol flynyddol a noddir gan Adran Athronyddol Graddedigion Prifysgol Cymru a phob rhifyn wedi'i olygu'n raenus gan E. Gwynn Matthews. A rhifyn teyrnged ydyw hwn i'r diweddar Dr Meredydd Evans (19192015), athronydd wrth ei alwedigaeth ac un a fu'n deyrngar am ddegawdau i weithgareddau Adran Athronyddol Urdd Graddedigion Prifysgol Cymru, ac un a fu'n ffyddlon eithriadol i'r frwydr dros yr iaith Gymraeg. Mae golygydd y gyfres wedi mynd ati i lunio teyrnged gytbwys benigamp i Merd, gan bwysleisio'n bennaf ei gyfraniad fel athronydd a wnaeth gymaint i hybu'r ddisgyblaeth honno drwy gyfrwng yr iaith Gymraeg. Yn yr ysgrif gyntaf, mae'r Prifardd a'r cyfreithiwr Emyr Lewis yn trafod hawliau iaith a moeseg, ac yn rhoi cryn sylw i faes ieithoedd lleiafrifol, gan bwysleisio bod yr iaith Gymraeg mewn sefyllfa o anghyfartalwch grym yn wyneb yr iaith Saesneg. Cyfeiria'n fynych at gyfraith ryngwladol. Cyflwyna gynllun i gynorthwyo'r frwydr dros yr iaith gan honni bod y Gymraeg yn yr oes sydd ohoni'n 'wynebu sefyllfa wrthebus lle mae hi dan warchae yn fwy nag erioed yn ei chadarnleoedd', hyd yn oed. Mae'r Athro Steven Edwards yn trafod anghenion ieithyddol megis anghenion gofal iechyd ac yn tanlinellu'n rymus y berthynas rhwng y ddwy elfen hyn. Ym marn yr awdur, mae gan y claf o Wlad Pwyl yr un hawl i gael ei drin yn ei iaith frodorol ei hun chlaf o Gymru hyd yn oed o fewn Cymru, ac mae'n trafod pedair dadl o blaid y dybiaeth hon. Mae'r ysgolhaig Huw Lewis yn defnyddio achos arwyddion cyhoeddus uniaith, sef y Ffrangeg, a fabwysiadwyd yn Qubec yng Nghanada fel astudiaeth achos fanwl dros ben ynghylch hybu iaith a rhyddid mynegiant. Dadansodda Carys Moseley y defnydd o'r Lladin, y Ffrangeg a'r Saesneg fel ieithoedd rhyngwladol ar wahanol adegau yng Nghymru. Rhoddir cryn sylw i ddylanwad Lladin ar Gymry, a'r defnydd a wnaethpwyd o'r iaith yn y wlad, a nodir y gwelwyd lleihad sylweddol yn ddiweddar yn y ddarpariaeth ar gyfer dysgu Ffrangeg yn ysgolion Cymru. Gwaith yr athronydd Almaenig Martin Heidegger yw thema erthygl hynod o ddiddorol Ned Thomas. Roedd trafod iaith bob amser yn agos at galon gweithiau niferus Heidegger. Daeth i gredu bod rhaid dychwelyd at ddechreuad y traddodiad athronyddol gorllewinol a datgymalu'r traddodiad hwnnw. Ac o'r cyfraniadau oll, erthygl y Dr Huw Lloyd Williams sydd yn trafod gwaith Meredydd Evans yn fwyaf uniongyrchol, yn bennaf ei gyfraniad fel ymgyrchydd dros yr iaith Gymraeg. Mae Dr Williams yn pwysleisio'r proffil hynod isel sydd gan y Gymraeg yn ein prifysgolion a'n hysgolion fel ei gilydd. Eir ati i geisio diffinio natur athroniaeth fel pwnc, y gydberthynas agos rhwng athroniaeth a'r iaith Gymraeg, datblygiad athroniaeth gymharol fel pwnc yn lled ddiweddar, a natur athronyddu drwy gyfrwng yr iaith Gymraeg. Mae cynnwys amrywiol y gyfrol hon yn sicr yn deyrnged deilwng i'r Dr Meredydd Evans. Byddai ef yn ymfalchon fawr yn natur y pynciau a drafodir yma a safon uchel y cyfraniadau, amryw gan athronwyr o'r to iau y bu ef yn frwd iawn yn eu cefnogi a'u hannog dros nifer o flynyddoedd. J. Graham Jones Gellir defnyddio'r adolygiad hwn at bwrpas hybu, ond gofynnir i chi gynnwys gydnabyddiaeth ganlynol: Adolygiad oddi ar www.gwales.com, trwy ganiatd Cyngor Llyfrau Cymru.
