About the Book

This is the story of a gorilla like no other. This is the story of a fantastic voyage across the world, from the Congolese rainforest to the grand bazaar of Istanbul, from Borneo to London, Singapore and beyond. The story of a mysterious jewel thief and a sad sailor with a heart of gold. A story of friendship and adventure on the high seas. This is the story of Sally Jones.

Review :
Gripping... Peter Graves translates elegantly with spectacular artwork that has you swinging from one page to the next Written and illustrated with a surreal strangeness that is particularly appealing Beautiful and engrossing... with a zing of poetic justice Fans of Jakob Wegelius's strange and wonderful gorilla odyssey The Murderer's Ape will be delighted by its prequel... it's both the perfect way in for those to whom a huge book seems intimidating, and witty enough to satisfy in its own right A thrillingly original tale... Its spectacular artwork will have you positively swinging from one page to the next... It's one of the most gripping, artfully told stories I've read this year The full-colour artwork has all the magic and strangeness of [The Murderer's Ape], but also reminds us of the terrible ways humans have treated gorillas and orangutans It has a very distinct Around the World in Eighty Days feel and also a strong Tintin feel as well. I love the illustrations and they really remind me of a Brian Selznick and Mira Bartok A great origin story, it's immensely satisfying... I really feel this could sit on a lot of bookshelves and just be fantastically weird... it's so woke in such a great way I breezed easily through the story in two short sittings... I've found myself flicking through the book, pausing on certain pictures, noticing details I hadn't originally. I think this is a book children and adults will want to return to. Sally Jones's tale is pretty legendary Fine storytelling that has a perfect sense of poetic justice. Sally will be a favourite with children and adults alike The illustrations and maps inside the book really help to take you on an amazing journey with Sally Jones Poignant, with bags of heart and some knowing chuckles, you need The Legend of Sally Jones in your life Jakob Wegelius did all the illustrations for [The Murderer's Ape], but here he has really excelled... each page [is] a work of art. Especially the back cover is gorgeous. And the story is lovely and really tugs at your heartstrings One of the most enjoyable, and original, highlights of recent children's fiction... If [The Murderer's Ape] is a testament to the glories of the author's enthralling storytelling, as it indeed is, then this one is a peon to the wonders of his imaginative image-making Just like The Murderer's Ape, Jakob explores a darkly delicious tale of spine-tingling excitement, terrible misfortune and a search for divine justice... it's utterly, utterly brilliant. Get it, because everyone will be talking about this book Will appeal to readers of any age... it filled me with such unbridled, childlike joy A delightful companion which could be read before or after its sister-story A rare jewel among children´s books... An old-fashioned adventure story illustrated in soft, warm colours... A book you don't want to finish So beautifully written and so amazingly illustrated that it makes you feel warm inside This story has a big adventure, big characters and an even bigger heart Praise for The Murderer's Ape I don't know when I last read a book with such pure and unalloyed pleasure. It's ingenious, it's moving, it's charming, it's beautiful, it's exciting, and most importantly the characters are people I feel I know like old friends. I thank Jakob Wegelius wholeheartedly for giving me several hours of joy Sally Jones is now my favourite heroine in recent Children's books. Move over King Kong, there's a new great ape in town. Charming, moving, and page-turning - what's not to like about this very original novel?? You gor-really got to read this Does not disappoint... this extraordinary book acquires a passport full of stamps as it masterfully juggles skulduggery and malaria, accordion-making and aeronautics, fado and pastries, police corruption and at least two love stories... a rare treat; a book you want to thrust into the hands of children and adults alike Sally Jones, the year's most charming heroine A captivating and unusual adventure story, brilliantly told from the point of view of Sally Jones Utterly delightful Evocative... original and old-fashioned in its storytelling... A story to lose yourself in
