Review :
May 2016 This book does what it says on the coverm, if you are a patchwork and quilting novice you will find Cheryl Owen's instructions great place to start learning to craft. The book would be a useful reference to keep by your sewing machine with chapters explaing the tools you will need to get started, how to quilt by hand and using a kmachine, explainations of hand and machine piecing, the uses of hand and machine applique, instructions on assembling a quilt and how to bind a quilt. The chapters offer detailed instructions throughout and are accompanied by clear photographs to illustrate each technique. The book also includes 20 projects to try your newly aquired skills on. The wide variety of projects are all small so perfect for some initial practise. The more unusual projects include a yoga mat carrier, trapunto box, a sarong with a seminole border and a wuilted silk belt with flower applique. All the projects can be adapted once you know the techniques. This book is a godsend! I am new to quilting and this book has been invaluable. It is ring-bound so it's easy to keep open at the page you need. It has a sturdy hard back so it's going to last for years. Not only do you get all the information you will need to start quilting you also get multiple projects to practice everything you are learning. You can make everything from a yoga mat, baby quilt to a boudoir pillow. With twenty different projects you are sure to find something you want to make. Each of the topics covered comes with clear step-by-step instructions with clear and easy to follow pictures. Easy of the projects also come with the same clear instructions and pictures. Different contrasting colours have been used throughout so that it is easy to see what is being done and when. I cannot rate this book highly enough. It's extremely informative and it's a book I'll be using time and again. http://www.crochetaddictuk.com/2016/01/quilting-for-absolute-beginner-search.html.
