Review :
March 2015 Knooking is the newest yarncraft on the block, a mixture of knitting and crochet. Basically you knit with a crochet hook, combining the two for a whole new dimension. The word is a combination of knit + hook, so as the back of the book says if you are a fan of the other two crafts you will enjoy this. This last sentence is a clue; if you can already knit and crochet here is a new way of producing knitting. At the front of the book the method for knooking is given plus a page or two of crochet stitches as a refresher course. I would guess that if you are reasonably confident with a crochet hook plus have a bit of knitting know-how you can tackle the projects in this book. Total yarncraft beginners are advised to go elsewhere to learn the two earlier crafts first before progressing to this. Once you have got the knack you can produce some attractive pieces – this is a very versatile craft and this book shows this off well. The projects are divided into outdoors and indoors; choose from hats, scarves, bags, a blanket, hot water bottle cover, cat doorstop, baby items, a tablet case etc. Each project has a large photo of the finished item plus difficulty rating, what you need to buy and instructions given in text form – no charts. Some pieces are quick to make, others are larger and would take longer but none look too advanced. This is a fun introduction to a new craft that is sure to become popular. April 2015 What do you get if you cross knitting and crochet? The answer is knooking, a technique where you crochet your knitting to create a mesh-life, knitted fabric. It can be used to make everything from hats, gloves and scarves to door stoppers, pillowcases and blankets. The technique's being pioneered by designer Veronika Hug. The step-by-step knooking workshop at the start of this book is easy to follow. And although Veronika recommends those new to knooking start with the easier patterns she's included, it won't take long for you to move on to the more challenging projects. All you'll need is a special knooking hook (which has a crochet hook at one end and an eye at the other), a bit of patience and the desire to learn something new. July 2015 You have probably heard of knitting and crochet but what about knooking? If you enjoy creativity with needles you will love to knook! Knooking by Veronika Hug is a book which shows you how to master this new technique and create the 19 fun projects within it. Veronika takes you through the very basics of knooking, using a crochet-like hook with an eye to create yarn projects that look knitted. Clear, step-by-step instructions are accompanied by full-colour photographs, explaining each of them in detail. Once you have the basics covered it is time to begin. Knook your own fashions with a hat, scarf or neck wrap, or knook up a bag in no time. You can also choose from pillowcases, blankets or hot water bottle covers, all of which have full, clear instructions and are accompanied with a selection of photographs. You can see the full review and more here at www.makeitshabby.com Knooking is a new technique that combines knitting with crochet. There are 19 fun projects in this book, including a mobile phone cover, hat, doorstop, pillow and more. Each project features a large photograph and is accompanied by a shopping list and difficulty rating. Knooking is a straightforward technique that anyone can master - the easy to follow instructions are a testament to that. If you have basic knitting and crochet, you'll take to it like a duck to water.
