About the Book

In 1914 the Royal Navy was, on paper, the world’s most powerful navy, it was built to equal the total size of any two likely opponents, and many regarded it as invincible. STANDFAST THE FLEET explores how the Royal Navy fared with pitted against the might of the German Navy, as well as the Austro-Hungarian and Turkish forces during the first truly global conflict, a war of unprecedented ferocity. While assessing everything in the context of the time, and the effects of war, David Wragg offers a detailed account of how Britain’s senior force developed to counter the dangerous threats that were rising.
