About the Book

Le roman se déploie à travers trois cadres historiques: la Bavière de 1919, l'Allemagne; la France pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale; et la France des années 1960. Nous faisons la connaissance du protagoniste, Yann, en 1960. Semi-retraité, ce journaliste, professeur et spécialiste de Camus est accablé par une vie marquée par les regrets. Cependant, il trouve une lueur d'espoir dans une amitié inattendue avec Klaus, le fils unique de Karl, un soldat allemand qui lui avait sauvé la vie en 1919. Klaus, jeune homme mélancolique, porte le poids de l'histoire et pousse Yann à revisiter et partager les récits qu'il a longtemps enfouis. Ces événements déterminants remontent à la Seconde Guerre mondiale, lorsque Yann croise de nouveau Karl et fait la rencontre de Madeleine, une ingénieure française et combattante de la Résistance, qui tente de le recruter pour rejoindre la cause. L'hésitation de Yann aura des conséquences tragiques, entraînant la mort de Madeleine, une perte qui hantera Yann pour le reste de sa vie.

About the Author :
Le premier roman de Karl, Clipperton, a vu le jour en 2006 sous l'égide de la désormais défunte maison d'édition Harbor House Books, basée à Augusta, en Géorgie.Au fil des ans, les nouvelles de Karl ont été publiées dans divers journaux locaux et régionaux, tels que The Loyalhanna Review. Né à Munich, Karl a émigré aux États-Unis en 1970. Ce roman puise son inspiration dans son enfance marquée par l'après-guerre et le rôle tragique que son pays natal a joué au cours du XXᵉ siècle.Karl a consacré toute sa vie à exercer en tant que pédiatre généraliste.
