About the Book

The Future of Work Is Grey, by award-winning author Dan Pontefract, reveals how we must rethink work amid demographic, economic, and productivity upheaval. For decades, outdated models assumed younger workers outnumber older ones and that retirement at 65 is fixed. This mindset created “Age Debt”—a burden from aging populations, plummeting birth rates, skills gaps, and multigenerational tensions. Pontefract presents the “Experience Dividend,” showing how integrating employees’ diverse skills across ages can transform workforce strategy. His framework of Rivers, Rocks, and Rubies highlights strengths at every life stage. An emergency siren for leaders, this book offers imperative actions to future-proof organisations by valuing age as an asset and building resilience, innovation, and hope in the future of work.
