About the Book

Shockwaves sweep the world in the aftermath of September 11. The Patriotic League barely need an excuse in their fight to get Britain back for the British, but this is chillingly perfect. Rabia and Tahir are British Muslims, Daz and Jason are out looking for trouble, Mike and Liam are brothers on different sides. None of them will escape unscarred from the terrifying and tragic events which will weave their lives together.

About the Author :
Alan Gibbons is a full-time writer and independent educational consultant. He has been writing children's books for seventeen years. His books have been published in Japanese, German, Italian, French, Thai, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Swedish and other languages. Chris Hoban was born in London and studied music at Edinburgh University, where he became closely involved with many aspects of theatre, writing, acting and composing. He collaborated on tours to Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Barbados and Russia as a musical director on educational pieces of promenade theatre. Since then he has worked as a freelance musician, both as a performer as well as a composer and songwriter for a number of different media, including his 9-piece Cuban influenced band, CHE!. He wrote the scores for Emily Young's award-winning Second Hand (Best Student Short, Cannes 1998) and Anne Wild's Mein Erstes Wunder amongst other films, and in the past couple of years has twice been nominated runner-up in Unisong, the world's largest songwriting competition.

Review :
“A prolific writer with a strong sense of social justice, Alan Gibbons is pacey and thorough.” “Pertinent, topical and tightly written.” "Alan Gibbons's story effectively recreates the post-9/11 world. Through the eyes of two families, both sides of a British versus British-Muslim riot, and its evolution, are presented. Narrator Chris Hoban expertly moves not only the dialogue, but also the multifaceted narrative along, capturing the accents and emotions of Liam, Mike, Rabia, and Tahir. Because this is a fully dimensionally depiction of the characters, no one is totally good or bad, making the story even more wrenching. Hoban delivers all sides of this tragic story while maintaining hope and optimism at its conclusion. A splendid choice for listeners who enjoy a well-told story and for those trying to understand 21st-century prejudice." "A powerful and topical children's novel exploring issues of racism, riots and real life in a Northern town. Inspired by the riots in Oldham and the events of September 11th, this is a telling portrait of key issues in today's Britain..."
