About the Author :
Maria Mbanga-Mazvimavi is a Women and Girl Child Empowerment Advocate, Community Builder, Leader, Philanthropist and Motivational Speaker. She is the Founder of Woman and Girls Arise Zimbabwe, Hope for Her Global Canada, Hope for Her Global USA. She is a Published Author and has a podcast called Sisters Talk, Up Close and Personal with Maria where she interviews women from around the globe who advocate for women and girls' issues varying from Education, law and justice and women advancement. The Alberta Black Gold Philanthropist of the Year award winner is Zimbabwean born. A secondary school English Literature teacher and Banker by profession. After graduation she sought to serve in the most disadvantaged communities in urban areas. Because of her passion for the Girl Child, she became involved in the Girl Child Network and was active in the Girl Child Movement and Affirmative Action Movement in Zimbabwe. She set up girls and women empowerment platforms and spaces for women and girls. She created safe spaces for girls and women and made them believe in their ability and equality with men. She helped girls keep active and removed them from vices that had swallowed many brilliant children. A service she still provides today in the different communities and organizations she continues to work with and volunteer.Maria migrated to North America 25 years ago to join her family in Dallas Texas USA, and later moved to Canada. Coming from an Education background with teaching experience, Maria believes that Education is the door to freedom, offering a chance to a brighter future. "I am a true disciple of home is best, but I believe my God willing, I am a better citizen alive and tomorrow will be able to help rebuild a better community for the children who are the future. I have a fairly chequered life that has been bordering on hope. A hope that has never died, a hope that never fades, hope, that whilst we are immigrants in foreign lands, will one day be treated equal and not as second-class citizens so that in turn we enjoy the dream."Through the various organizations she runs, she hopes to support Education, Literacy development and Economic Sustainancy for women and girls. Maria sits on various boards of numerous organizations internationally. She is a founding Board member for the International Childhood Cancer Charity USA. Maria is the past Vice President for Edmonton Multi Cultural Coalition. She served for Alberta Junior Achievement for five years. She is an active member of the Women, Peace and Security Network and founding Board President for Roses Life Women Center Canada. Born in Ottawa, Canada, raised in Montreal Tamarack Verrall has lived in Vancouver, Ottawa and in the woods farming, returning to Montreal in 2014. Her travels have taken her across Canada, the USA, parts of Europe, North Africa, India, New Zealand, Mexico and Tobago. Tamarack's work has spanned teaching, public speaking, writing, counselling and healing work with women and girls. In 2014 she discovered worldpulse.org enabling work with women in 227 countries. In 2020 Tamarack was awarded the first World Pulse Spirit Award and she currently serves on the Steering Committee. She lives to see women respected and free. Carolyn Seaman is a lawyer with over 20 years' experience advancing girls' and women's rights. She is a Social Entrepreneur, Tech Evangelist, Filmmaker, Girl Expert, Founder and Creative Director of Girls Voices Initiative, a non-profit that educates and empowers girls and women to identify their voices to advocate for their rights; and to use technology and digital media to amplify their voices to wide audiences, particularly policymakers. Carolyn is a TechWomen Fellow, Women Leader of the World Fellow, World Pulse Ambassador and Advanced Digital Changemaker. Carolyn was named on the 2021 FemiList 100 women, 100 Most Influential Civil Society Leaders in Nigeria, 107 Gender Justice Advocates, Top 21 Women Leaders to Watch in 2021, Humanitarian Awards Global's Most Distinguished Women Change Maker in Africa 2020-2021, Nigeria's 20 Most Innovative Women in Tech, 50 Most Outstanding Female Pacesetters in Africa, Nigeria's 100 Women in Tech and 5 Most Innovative Women in Tech in Nigeria.
