About the Book

CLOSE TO ZERO, for the first time, tells the full story of Donald Trump's personal, biological warfare attack against the country - the very people - he was sworn to protect. That attack was the COVID-19 pandemic. What did Trump know and when did he know it? And more importantly - why did he do it? Why did the purported leader of the free world inflict the world's worst pandemic response on his own people? Award-winning journalist Jonathan Vankin explores those questions, and offers some shocking answers. From a mysterious golf course phone call from Vladimir Putin two days before the existence of a deadly new virus was revealed to the world, through his repeated declarations that the pandemic would "disappear" when he knew exactly the extreme dangers of the novel coronavirus, to his final attempt to use the COVID-19 crisis to stage a coup and install himself in power indefinitely, CLOSE TO ZERO builds the case against Trump, ultimately indicting him for deliberately causing a disaster that took more than a half-million American lives.

About the Author :
As author of the book CONSPIRACIES, COVER-UPS AND CRIMES, the first comprehensive, journalistic investigation into America's underground of conspiracy theorists on both the left and the right, award-winning journalist Jonathan Vankin is uniquely qualified to not only put the pieces of the Donald Trump pandemic story together, but to put it all in perspective in CLOSE TO ZERO. Vankin co-wrote (with John Whalen) a follow up to CC&C, THE 50 GREATEST CONSPIRACIES OF ALL TIME. That book became a series, compiling and dissecting every major conspiracy theory of the era. Clearly, there were many more than 50, so he expanded the book to THE 60 GREATEST, followed by 70, 80, and finally, THE WORLD'S GREATEST CONSPIRACIES, bringing the inventory to 100. He later co-authored (also with Whalen) a book about movies, BASED ON A TRUE STORY (BUT WITH MORE CAR CRASHES), rooting out the true facts behind 100 films that claim to be "based on a true story." Along the way, Vankin's writing has been published by The New York Times Magazine, LA Weekly, Salon, and others. He has also served as a comic book editor for DC/Vertigo Comics, writer of graphic novels, and co-author of the successful off-Broadway show FOREVER DUSTY, a bio-musical of the great British pop star Dusty Springfield.

Review :
"Jonathan Vankin adds up what has been gained from the harrowing ordeal of Donald Trump as chief executive these past years. Vankin was a true parapolitical scholar since before Trump turned conspiracy theories into the central American spectacle. Must reading as a guidepost for where we go from here." -- Kenn Thomas, author Trumpocalypse Now! The Triumph of the Conspiracy Spectacle
