About the Book

As a former corporate rescue expert brought in by companies from start-ups to the Fortune 50 to rescue critical initiatives running into the hundreds of millions of dollars, Janet Ply has seen firsthand the staggering cost of leaders- particularly new ones-who struggle and fail. The reason in most cases is simple: Training at most companies, if it is even provided, is usually impractical or piecemeal, consisting of generic online training programs or inconsistent advice from others who are winging it themselves. Practical Leadership draws from Ply's decades of hands-on experience and extensive research to present a clear, system-thinking framework that distills the best practices from hundreds of resources into actionable steps that anyone at any level can implement, including: Leading by example and creating a safe, efficient, results-oriented work environment Strengthening your emotional intelligence to build stronger relationships Communicating effectively to improve productivity and build rapport Establishing productivity habits to achieve goals faster while maintaining a work-life balance Achieving measurable results for long-term success Building high-performing teams to promote a culture of accountability Everyone deserves to work for a great leader. With Practical Leadership, you'll have the tools and strategies to create and lead teams that deliver exceptional results and make a lasting impact on the lives of your colleagues.

About the Author :
Janet Ply, PhD, is a leadership consultant with more than twenty-five years of experience working with companies ranging from start-ups to Fortune 50.In her work with organizations such as Northrop Grumman, Tyson Foods, Fidelity Systems Company, and AT&T Solutions, she has served as an adviser to dozens of C-suite executives, spearheaded recovery of large ($600 million-plus) initiatives, led strategic planning sessions, streamlined and automated business processes, developed program management offices, and facilitated hands-on leadership and project management workshops.Rather than approaching leadership development from organizational development or human resources perspectives, she approaches it from life in the trenches, where she experienced leadership (or lack thereof) and the consequences firsthand. She holds a bachelor's degree in mathematics, master's degrees in engineering and procurement and acquisition, and a PhD in information technology and is certified through the John Maxwell Group as a DiSC consultant, speaker, trainer, and coach.

Review :
"Janet Ply is the real deal. I've seen way too many talented people flail in leadership because nobody ever taught them how to do the job well. This book fixes that. Janet has been in the fire, she's led through chaos, and now she's giving you the tools she's used to rescue high-stakes, high-dollar messes. If you lead people-or you want to-Practical Leadership should live on your desk. Get it, use it, lead better." -Mel Robbins, New York Times bestselling author of The Let Them Theory and host of The Mel Robbins Podcast "Janet Ply has created what so many leadership books promise but rarely deliver-a practical and actionable guide, grounded in real-world experience. With clarity and compassion, she cuts through the noise and gives leaders exactly what they need: a framework that works in the messiness of real organizations. Whether you're new to leadership or trying to rebuild your confidence after years in the trenches, this book will equip you to lead with greater trust, accountability, and purpose. It's not just theory-it's a road map for real transformation." -Dr. Marshall Goldsmith, Thinkers50 #1 executive coach and New York Times bestselling author of The Earned Life, Triggers, and What Got You Here Won't Get You There "Practical Leadership bridges the gap between knowing and doing. Janet Ply's actionable tactics make leadership skills accessible and achievable." -Dorie Clark, Wall Street Journal bestselling author of The Long Game and one of Thinkers50's Top Business Thinkers in the World "Janet Ply has written a fluff-free guide for leaders. Real strategies, real moves, and real results-all before your coffee gets cold." -Mike Michalowicz, author of All In and Profit First
