About the Book

Johari the Great is an early chapter book with full-color illustrations. It's an excellent transitional storybook. It's an engaging tale about a clever, imaginative boy named Johari. Inspired by his teacher to use his imagination, he suceeds! He writes a story! A contest and a mystery follow, and a fun plot twist too! With a little humor and some help from his friends, Johari discovers his gift and the greatness he has within. It's an inspirational story that celebrates diversity, learning, family, teachers, and community. It celebrates the greatness that all children have inside, just waiting to be discovered! This story will inspire children to discover the power of their imagination to do great things. It encourages reading and writing, creativity and even speaking in public. Emphasizing reading comprehension and vocabulary, the included worksheets enhance understanding and promote family discussion. BIPOC Author.

Review :
The storybook, "Johari The Great" by N. Dunsen-White, tackles the importance and impact of youth having and following their dreams. This is done through the main character of the book, Johari, as he interacts with his family and participates in a school contest. The book is designed to promote discussion in a family or educational setting regarding different themes and interactions that are introduced in the story. I recommend the book for an individual reader, a family discussion piece, or as a tool for learning in the classroom. -Joseph R. Dickerson, M. Ed, LPC. "Life without imagination is like chocolate chip cookies without the chocolate chips." Now that wouldn't do at all, would it? Johari knew that chocolate chips were the best part of chocolate chip cookies, just like his imagination was the best part of his life! Naomi V. Dunsen-White's early chapter book story, Johari the Great is a fun way for young readers to learn the true power of imagination. There is a storyteller in all of us; all we need is a little encouragement, like Johari had from his parents, his teachers, and his friends. I love the way the author creates the main story, then shares the story Johari has written, which is a parallel fantasy of Johari himself. It's a story within a story, where Johari is the greatest in his story and in his life. What a great way to encourage young readers to believe in themselves and to always believe that each and every one of us is great in our own unique way. The language is simple enough to help young readers with their developing reading skills. The illustrations are bright, bold, colorful, and very expressive. Loved it!" -Reader's Favorite
