About the Book

The Thing King has every gizmo and gadget imaginable, yet he is still unhappy. What's a neighborly bird to do? Follow along as our feathered friend sets out on a mission to cheer up the Thing King. With thoughtful rhymes and engaging illustrations that make children (and parents) laugh out loud, this story encourages kids to get outside and reminds readers that happiness is often rooted in simple pleasures. This family friendly, read aloud book is perfect for readers in preschool, kindergarten, and early elementary school. It also makes a great gift for anyone who may have a little too much clutter in their life.

About the Author :
Kat Chew is a writer and outdoor enthusiast. In 2014 she was awarded the Best Environmental Reporting Piece of the Year from the Wisconsin Newspaper Association. "The Thing King" is her debut children's book. In her own words, "I love tea, travel, and sunshine. When I'm not stumbling upon some new (and probably awkward) situation, I'm likely writing about an old one. While I do love this life, if given the chance, I'd happily jump into an 80's movie or 90's sitcom. If you can't find me, try looking in the mountains." Taylor Roszkos is a story artist and illustrator who graduated from Chapman University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Digital Arts, having studied animation at the Dodge College of Film and Media Arts, in 2013.

Review :
"The story is so appropriate for children who seem to want everything. In kindergarten, our Social Science curriculum had a unit on our 'Needs for Survival'. In it was a section where I charted 'Need vs. Want'. This book would be perfect to go along with it." - Janis (Kindergarten Teacher) "The Thing King is a cute and whimsical story that has a great message for all ages! The illustrations are adorable and colorful, and the length is great for kids' short attention spans. Buying a few copies to give as baby shower gifts!" - Caroline (Customer) "Such a wonderful little book! Warms the heart and is a great reminder for people of all ages to get outside and to focus less on our 'things'. Great illustrations too!" - Jared Hanstra (Customer) "This is a delightful read about a sad king who thinks collecting things is the secret to happiness. The little birdy narrator discovers the secret to his sadness and helps him find joy again. The whimsical rhymed story and colorful illustrations are a lovely read for all ages!" - KTeaX (Customer) "Such a well done story, teaching children to appreciate the simple things in life, over material things! It was told in such a fun, playful manner! My daughter and I both thoroughly enjoyed this book! I would highly recommend it!" - D-Rod (Customer) "Excellent writing and artful illustrations create story of a king and his friend in the search for something more." - ScarletGrey (Customer) "Such a cute story, with a great message. The cartooning is lively and colorful (I especially love the little bird!!), with cleverly written rhymes to help paint a story in a way that's fun for parents and kiddos alike. This story is a great way to teach our little ones about the importance of kindness, friendship, and not attaching to material goods too much along the way." - Meghan Lenhardt (Customer)
