We Can Be One Too! A Child's Book of Yoga Poses

Be an airplane, be a starfish, be an eagle or just be you! An interactive picture book created by a children's yoga teacher for the littlest of yogis, 'We Can Be One Too! A Child's Book of Yoga Poses' uses incredible illustrations, photographs and line drawings to reveal how it's never too early to introduce the benefits of yoga. While one page shows a familiar animal or object, the next reveals a brother and sister saying, 'We can be one too!', as they are in the related yoga pose to the best of their ability. The final pose is a reminder of how we are all perfect - just being ourselves! A companion title to 'I Can Be One Too! A Child's Book of Yoga Poses, this book introduces twelve new child-friendly poses. Supplemental line drawings of a child in each of the postures along with a summary page to help guide parents and educators is included. Simplistic text and repetitive wording make this a wonderful book for beginning readers.

About the Author :
An educator for over thirty years, Susan Kain is a registered children's yoga teacher (RCYT) and Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider (YACEP). She often creates supplemental materials for her Crawler/Toddler and Preschooler Yoga classes and these books have become the outgrowth of her love for the littlest of yogis. Lauren is an illustrator extraordinaire who lives quietly in a home she and her partner built in Oregon.

Adorable! Beautiful illustrations and photos! I have led preschool and kindergarten level Sunday school, as well as early elementary aged scout groups, and wish I would have had this book to read with them. I know they would have had a blast, as little ones love "transforming" into animals and creatures. Having a photo of a child doing the yoga pose correctly right next to a creature illustration really shows the connection of the pose name to the movement. I also appreciated the author's note at the end encouraging parents and teachers to let their kids do their little yogi thing and have fun without aiming for pose perfection. That's so important, because children learn and develop healthy habits through play. In the end, as the book says, the most important thing is to be you. It would be so much fun to have a group of kids coming up with and demonstrating their own 'me' pose after reading this book! This book is perfect for children! The illustrations are beautiful, the poses are demonstrated correctly, and it helps children make a connection between why poses have the names they do (cat pose looks like a cat!). My daughter and I took a Mommy and Me yoga class with the author of this book for more than a year and Susan's love for both children and yoga was apparent in her classes and now in this gem of a book. My daughter is 3 1/2 and she loves it. I am a 200hr RYT yoga instructor myself but since I teach only adults I struggled with how to teach my child the asanas in a way that made it fun and interesting to a child. Enter this book! Instead of mommy shouting out "now try cat pose" and asking her to practice the pose, we can read the book together see the animal, see the visual demonstration by the child in the book, and then my daughter will jump right off my lap ready to imitate what she sees on the pages. I highly recommend this book as a yoga instructor and as a mom! I love this book! As a yoga teacher and a grandmother, this book is invaluable for children just learning to read as well as helping to make yoga accessible to all. The illustrations are colorful, simple and accurate and help the child to connect the word with the yoga poses. As a missionary in a Spanish speaking country, this book will be packed along with my other 'must haves". The book can be used to help teach English and yoga in a fun and interactive way. The end of the book invites the children to simply be who they are. This can lead to further discussion about letting other's be who they are as well. I'm so happy to have this book as part of my essential yoga teaching collection! As a yoga teacher, I am delighted that "We Can Be One Too!" is my 4 yr old son's new favorite yoga book! The "challenge" of "Can you do...?" is the perfect playful motivator to get him started, and even create his own "me" pose. The book is just the right length to keep him interested, and I like the selection of poses. Colorful, whimsical illustrations of the animal/ object in nature, paired with adorable, easy-to-follow photos of a real kid enthusiastically doing each pose make this accessible and appealing for toddlers, pre-schoolers and early elementary school age kids.
