About the Book

Jason Thorn is a filthy and unwanted 13-year-old with a bleak future. He's been pulled from school for good and is kept prisoner in the family basement with his dog when a wicked storm hits his tiny hometown of Niobrara. Already adept at enduring situations most 13-year-olds wouldn't be able to comprehend, Jason must survive the onslaught of floodwaters and devastation that has destroyed his hometown. To do so, he'll rely on three unexpected friends who will encourage him along the way.

Review :
"From the first sentence, Patrick Douglas' touching tribute to a boy lost to unimaginable cruelty gripped my heart. Lest you believe that this account stems purely from the wild imagination of Mr. Douglas, you should know that it was pulled straight from our own headlines, and he handily reveals the horrors that are all too frequent in the lives of forgotten children no matter how hard we try to turn our heads away. This was someone's reality - a precious boy, just thirteen years old. Douglas makes us want to scoop up this young Jason Thorn, who is so worthy of love, and masterfully takes us with him on his trek toward safety. The ability of the human mind is remarkable, always working to protect us from the unimaginable. More importantly, he casts a light on the Jasons of the world who need advocates who care and will step in to rescue them. He gives these children a voice and pays homage to those that we've lost. Recognizing, intervening, and preventing child abuse is everyone's responsibility. I applaud this author for shedding light on this beautiful soul who was once among us, yearning for life the same way each of us does. As long as I live, I will never forget Jason Thorn, the boy who inspired this story, nor the children who suffer every day from their oppressors." -Daisy Rain Martin Author of "Juxtaposed: Finding Sanctuary On the Outside," and "Hope Givers: Hope is Here"
