About the Book

Working with high school and collegiate golfers, John Perna's TPS Players Service offers optimal one-on-one coaching with the latest in technology to create top-notch players. With over 80 Division 1 players, his system has proven itself over and over. "Developing Golfers into Players" highlights Perna's success through the words of eleven of his successful players and two of his coaches. With Foreword by Chip Brewer and Preface by Dr. Rick Jensen, TPS takes its students to new heights in their game and in their lives. "Our training system is what separates TPS from other golf academies. One aspect of the system involves correct hierarchy or sequencing in the use of technology, for example, Trackman. In order to become TPS students in the first place, one must attain a grade of 90 or above on a certification test and write a five-page essay, all about the system. Although students are all different, the sequence and systematic interpretation of the data is the same for all. This allows our players to get into their fix--their adjustment--quickly and easily. TPS players are constantly seeing that sequence being followed. They study each other's process. The students buy in because they not only see their own results, they also observe all their fellow students achieving tremendous success. As a result, the community becomes the system." -John Perna

About the Author :
John Perna is founder and owner-operator of the Player Service, a golf academy based just outside Chicago, Illinois. Known informally as TPS, the academy specializes in training junior golfers who aspire to play collegiate golf, collegiate golfers who aspire to become professional golfers, and professional golfers who dream of playing on the PGA Tour or the LPGA Tour. In addition to developing golfers into players, TPS is also a leader in educating college coaches and golf instructors on their proprietary training system. TPS has experienced unprecedented success for a golf academy in a northern, short-season location. Since the 2010 launch of TPS, six of its seven original students have, by age 24, earned PGA Tour-affiliated status. TPS has developed the No. 1 ranked boy or girl in Illinois every year from 2011 through 2018. At this writing, TPS is training the No. 1 ranked boy in Illinois in the 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022 class and the No. 1 ranked girl in Illinois in the 2020, 2021 and 2022 class. Over the past eight years, TPS has sent more than 80 players to NCAA Division 1 schools to play golf. In total, more than 100 TPS players have gone on to play collegiately. Review :
"This is just the right time for John Perna's book, Developing Golfers into Players, to come along. The beliefs and instincts that guide John as a coach represent an ideal way of working with the high-tech diagnostics that have quickly become vital to instruction and training. . . . John has been in the vanguard of coaches who acknowledge the value of knowing what happens in the golf swing even while devising new, artful ways to guide students through the real-life process of upgrading physical performance." -Chip Brewer, CEO, Callaway Golf "The game of golf isn't just about golf swings. No coaching philosophy accepts this fact more than John's. At TPS, athleticism in golf extends to the body's metabolism, the visual system, self-awareness, situational judgment, even to what's in a player's heart as it beats faster in competition. All those factors are vital because they contribute to the full attainment of an individual athlete's potential which, in my view, is the core concept of the Player Service." -Dr. Rick Jensen, Coach, Sport Psychologist, Author
