About the Book

Limerick Comics is a unique blend of amusing limerick poetry and nonfiction. The 32-page collection offers lighthearted original limericks on a diverse range of history and science topics, accompanied by intriguing facts, presented in entertaining comics. Each page contains a five-panel fully illustrated mini-comic, and a sixth panel with engaging, fun facts and information about that topic. Kids of all ages are invited to linger on each page to enjoy the humor of hyperbolic imagery, ponder inferences, and view the evocative details of each eye-catching illustrated panel. Add this playful book to your home, classroom, school, or public library collection, and nurture an appreciation of poetry, science, history, civics, and art. Limerick Comics was the winner of the 2021 Feathered Quill Book Awards Gold First Place Medal for Poetry, and Reviewer's Choice Award. At the 2022 Paris Book Festival, Limerick Comics was awarded Honorable Mention in the Children's Book category.

Review :
"Collected limericks for children ages 8 to 12 humorously present factual tidbits from science and history with comic-book-style illustrations. In his debut book, Hoyman combines two forms that kids love--limericks and comic books--to offer one-page lessons on various subjects." "Both amusing and instructive, with broad appeal and excellent illustrations."--Kirkus Reviews "Even when discussing complex subjects, Hoyman keeps the language simple ("A caveman all covered with dust/ Could briskly make flint stones combust"). Young readers will have no trouble enjoying and absorbing the entire collection, whether by picking a poem at random or reading from cover to cover. With the subject matter changing from page to page, the book excels at keeping readers' attention while planting the seeds for an early appreciation of poetry, art, history, science, and civics. This witty and fun little book, displayed on a Kindle or Nook or read by flashlight, is sure to delight any reader who gives it a look." "For young readers and parents alike, this collection of factoid limericks will be a great introduction to poetry while delivering interesting knowledge and good laughs."--Booklife by Publishers Weekly "Debut author Robert Hoyman has hit the proverbial ball out of the park with his first book, Limerick Comics." "When I was first given this book to review, I was a bit hesitant as I thought it might be difficult to write a review about limericks. But then I started to explore the book and fall in love with every page. It's that good. The author has done a great job of creating funny limericks that follow the five-line rhyme format in which the first, second and fifth lines rhyme, and the third and fourth lines rhyme. Nothing is forced; they all flow freely. As mentioned above, the illustrations are a perfect fit for this book - bright, somewhat silly, and with a comic-style appeal. The "factoid" section of each page isn't just a few lines of related text but instead gives useful information. In fact, they can certainly be used as a starting point for doing research on any of the topics in the book. In short, Limerick Comics is a perfect book for engaging kids and getting them to learn in a creative and enjoyable way." Quill says: "Limerick Comics is such a fun, and surprisingly informative book! You really need to add this one to your child's reading list and while you're at it, read it yourself - it's so much fun you don't want to miss it!" --Feathered Quill Book Reviews
