About the Book

Meet Shep, a shepherd with a hundred sheep, in this nuanced retelling of the classic parable of the Good Shepherd. Author and illustrator Jenica Halula tells the story of a young Shepherd and his delightful sheep. Shep enjoys his days as a Shepherd, leading his flock through sun-filled meadows while he carefully teaches each sheep its name. At the end of the day he counts the sheep to make sure each one made it home. When Shep discovers that one sheep is missing, he must make a choice. Under the moonlight, he could stay in the safety of the pen with the 99 sheep, or he could retrace his steps out in the wild. Will he make sure every single sheep is safe? Shep sets off on a journey to make a safe path home for the last, lost sheep. Following the thoughtful tradition of classics like The Jesus Storybook Bible and The Clown of God, Jenica Halula uses vibrant illustrations and poetic imagery to remind child and adult alike about loyalty, unwavering care, and the value of every person.

About the Author :
Jenica ("Nica") Halula started her career entertaining young and old alike as a child performer, juggling on stage with The Fitz Family, a real-life family juggling act. She then toured the country with HappyFunTime, performing improv comedy shows and creating sketch videos. She has written children's curriculum for Augsburg Fortress & David C. Cook, produced Telly-award winning educational videos for Learning ZoneXpress distributed by the Discovery Channel, produced videos to tell the stories of Compassion International & Life Promotions, and currently is on staff at the Fuller Youth Institute. She co-authored Faith for the Next Generation with authors and speakers Bob Lenz and Dr. Rich Melheim. She and her husband Wes, a writer-director have collaborated on many projects, but none have turned out as great as their two kids. They live in southern California with their happy old dog, who has been the subject of many of Nica's sketches. Review :
"Shep and a Hundred Sheep is wonderful. It's a tender tale that helped our family see a familiar story with new eyes." - S. D. Smitth, Author of The Green Ember Series. "I'm not sure if I am more excited for the children, or for the adults that will read this to them. I know that I needed the message of Shep today. Jenica Halula did a brilliant job capturing the heart of the Shepard King Jesus both in her words and her outstanding illustration. " -- Bob Lenz, National Youth Speaker & Founder of Life Promotions "Nica Halula's Shep and a Hundred Sheep is a charming imagination of the relationship between a shepherd and his sheep. Simple but deeply resonant, like most thoughtful children's books, it easily makes its way into head and heart. I read it one early morning and it lightened my mood while giving me a unique view of caring leadership. A sweet offering, with her own illustrations, that made me smile." - Lauralee Farrer, Chief Storyteller and VP of Communications, FULLER Studio, Fuller Theological Seminary
