About the Author :
MD James R. Doty JAMES R. DOTY, MD, is the author the New York Times bestseller Into the Magic Shop and a contributing writer for HuffPost. At Stanford University, Dr. Doty is a professor in the Department of Neurosurgery and the director of the Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education (CCARE), of which His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the founding benefactor. He is on the Board of Directors of a number of non-profit foundations including the Charter for Compassion, of which he is the former vice-chair. He is the former chairman of the Dalai Lama Foundation. He is also on the International Advisory Board of the Council for the Parliament of the World’s Religions. Dr. Doty is an inventor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist who supports a number of charitable organizations including Children as the Peacemakers, Global Healing, The Pachamama Alliance and Family & Children Services of Silicon Valley. These charities support a variety of programs throughout the world including those for HIV/AIDS support, blood banks, medical care in third-world countries, and peace initiatives.
