About the Book

On a cold, rainy December day, two teams are battling it out for the championship of the NCAA Division III football crown, but this game differs from all others in all times. The same coach is simultaneously coaching both teams. The dilemma for the coach, MP Reardon, begins when he finds himself approaching college graduation with a meaningless degree and nowhere to go. Two of his colleagues In Division I football have hopes for the future. Deandre is headed for the pros, not the NFL but the CFL. Still it's the pros. Emilio, who double majored in Chinese and International Relations, has landed a job in the State Department. With a nothing degree and no job prospects, MP Reardon faces a bleak future. Since all he has known is football, he takes a job as a graduate assistant only to be the scapegoat for another assistant coach who has been running an academic and financial scam to keep talented athletes in his program. The head coach remains oblivious to all types of shenanigans as his tunnel vision constrains him to visions of easy victories. Naively allied with the head coach, MP becomes an easy fall guy for the more Machiavellian assistant, Austin Lowe. When the scandal unfolds, the public cries for heads to roll. With no hope of ever obtaining a Division I coaching job and with dreams of winning the respect and love of Annie, a bright engineering student, MP applies to two low budget schools and gets the jobs primarily by default since the pay is so low. How MP manages to work both jobs, earn the love of Annie, and still maintain some small degree of sanity informs the story of May the Better Team...
