About the Book

All MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL. This concept is included in the Constitution of the United States. Also, in the Bible it states that we are created in God's image. And yet, since the African Americans have been brought to America, their rights as human beings are still considered less by many Caucasians. The African Americans have struggled and fought for their rights and equality and have made huge strides to accomplish their goal. This story is written to give hope and inspiration that all men will someday be judged by their actions and words, and not the color of their skin. The Kenton Plantation was enjoying its prosperity along with the other plantations in the area when word reached them of the beginning of the Civil War. They tried to remain neutral, but the harshness of war on your soil forces you to be enveloped by it. The Kentons' situation becomes more complicated than the other families as two sons decide to fight for opposite sides. After the war, the country had to heal its wounds and try to become united. On the Kenton Plantation, the remaining white Kentons had to work out their differences with the friends and family of a slave girl named Sarene. Both sides realized that to continue to survive by farming the land, both families would have to make sacrifices and concessions. Their future was not easy, as more wars, the depression, and other changes brought more adaptations by both sides. The present-day Kentons are no different than their predecessors. Both sides face many complications as their lives take many twists and turns. Bigotry has become more prominent between the two families and in their present-day society. The new generation of Kentons either become part of the problem, or work diligently to solve it. It takes the heroic actions of one son, Rabe, to finally bring equality of man to both families.
